Water Conservation Tips for Outside the Home

It's important for us to all try and save and conserve water.

Here are a few tips for saving water outside of a home.

  • Water plants outside between 10PM and 4AM to allow them to actually absorb more of the water. There will be less evaporation and the plants will be able to utilize more of the water.
  • Check landscaping drip systems and be sure that all the parts are working property. Make sure that the sprinkler heads are set to allow for enough water and are properly working. An unchecked irrigation system leak can end up wasting a lot of water and add extra fees to one's watering bill.
  • Check outside faucets. Frequently a drip/leaky faucet might not be caught quickly without a maintenance check.
  • Water plants deep and only the amount needed. Don't starve plants, just manage the water. It is easy to set a irrigation system to run at certain times and then go off and forget it. An irrigation system may need to be tweaked every few months to provide the right amount of water for the season.

A few things can make a difference in helping us all conserve water and still be using what we really need.

Water Conservation Tips for Inside the Home

It's important for us all to conserve water ~ particularly in summer months.

Here are a few tips that may be helpful in conserving water inside a home.

  • Set your clothes washer to the load level of the amount of clothes inside it. Don't run a "large" load for only a small amount of items.
  • Wash dishes in a dishwasher when the appliance is full of dishes. If there are only a few items and you must have them before the dishwasher is full, then wash them by hand.
  • If your family includes small children, check to see that the faucets are turned off and not dripping. Little hands sometimes do not get faucets turned off all the way.
  • Toilets can be leaking when it might not even appear to the eye that this is occurring. You can place a small amount of food coloring inside the toilet tank. Check back in awhile and if the color and seeped into the bowl without flushing you might have a leak that is wasting hundreds of gallons of water, or more, monthly.

A few small things can help save water for all of us.
