How Many Referrals Has Your Mom Sent You?

"People do business with those they know, like and trust."

"It's not what you know, or even who you know, it's how well you know them."

"People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

"People will forget what you've said. People will forget what you've done. But they will never forget how you made them feel."

The common thread in all these famous quotes is the concept of knowing people and treating them in a way that makes them feel important. But even the most attractive social butterfly will fall short of their income goals if they miss one key component of networking...

"You have not, because you ask not."

Think about your mom for a moment. In most cases, she knows you well. She likes you. She wants the best for you. She's likely one of your biggest raving fans! But how often does she do business with you? How often does she send you referrals. Often times, she's not even on the radar as a referral source. Why? Because we usually don't ask our mom's for their business or their referrals. You see, knowing, liking and trusting someone are all very important. But don't forget to ASK for business. Of course, there's always a "right way" and a "rude way" to do this. But we are in the service industry. We solve problems for people. We're educators and trainers and coaches. Don't forget, the value that we bring to our clients lives is worthwhile... even life-changing. This means that we can, and should, ask for clients and referrals at almost any time, in almost any setting.

It's been said that, "You can network anywhere, as long as you honor the event."

With all the time and money that we spend to get in front of people, and to get them to know, like and trust us, we need to make sure that our efforts are not in vein. Be sure to ask for business as often as possible. When you do, you may be surprised with the results!

Hand-Written Notes Have a Life to Live!

Ahhh, the Power of the Hand-Written Note!

I'm sure most of you have recieved a hand-written note at some point in your life. I can guarantee that a few things happened... everytime single time!

First, you opened the note... and read it! You see, hand-written notes must be read! It's a law of nature. Someone took the time to actually pick up a pen and put it to the paper. There is value in that, and the message in that note must always be read.

Second, it made you feel special and important! Someone thought of you and took the time communicate that to you.

Finally, after you opended and read the note, you kept it. Perhaps not for a long period of time, but that note ended up on a shelf, or on the refrigerator, or was pinned up on a cork board. Understand that hand-written notes have a life to live. They simply cannot be read and then thrown away!

The simple fact that your note will be opened, read and kept, should have us writing several each day!

Use a hand-written note this week to let some of your clients know that you're thinking of them, and be sure to ask them for a referral. You can be sure that your conversion ratio will be much higher than with any pre-formated newsletter or "drip" campain that you've sent in the past.

Try it. I dare you!
