When, where, how much to spend?
These are all questiongs that must be answered before the search for a new place begins.
I suggest when first starting to contemplate the big move out of your home of many years that it is a good time to do a spring cleaning. You will be surprised at how much extra space you have and will be one big step forward when the "big decision as to where to move, how much to spend and what to buy" is made. Getting rid of old stuff will get you more into the mood to make a big change.
This is also a good time to start to establish a reltionship with a Realtor. Your Realtor will have many resources to share with you for home repairs that may save you lots of money and time. Your Realtor will be able to make suggestions as to which improvements will make your home sell more quickly, for more money and in less time. When I work with my clients at this stage I suggest that they let me bring in my professional stager who writes a report of "things to do" that can be as long as ten pages!
Once my clients have chosen where they would like to move, if it is out of the area I find them a qualified realtor to help them search for their new home.
