Teacher Unions

One of the biggest problems we have in this country is our government (public) education system. And the number one enemy to education is Teacher Unions. Here is a clip by teachers about these unions:
The Truth about Teachers Unions from Union Facts on Vimeo. The teachers in this clip are repeating what I hear from the teachers that I know. The teachers unions are only about power and control, not about educating our child. The best solution for our children and parents is the privatization of our schools in conjunction with a voucher system. Here is an example: 1. Atlanta's public school cost last year was around $14,000 per child. 2. If them issue a voucher to the parents for say 80% of the $14,000 = $11,200 and the City's Education Department uses the remainder for administration cost. 3. The parent takes the vouher and then shops for the best school for their child. The city wins becuse they no longer have the upkeep of a school system with its teachers, programs, and faciities. The teachers win because they will receive pay based on merit. They will be free to teach in a manner that is more flexible and focused on children; not what an administrator wants them to teach. The parents win because they are more involved in the education process. They can quickly move their children from a school that is not teaching their children to the standards the parent requires and into one that does. The children are the real wins they will receive a high level of education and be vastly better prepared to achieve in life. Our education system could and should be the best in the world. It is at best a laughing stock. Government involvement and teachers unions are the primary reasons.

Voting: Some people shouldn't

The other day I talking with some friends over coffee and the subject turned to politics. We are all Libertarians, so this is a common occurrence. The discussion was on voting and who should vote and who should not. We came to the voting topic when one of my friends brought up this old quote:

A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

Now we should all know that we do not live in a democracy; but, a republic.

Now using the quote, the following questions were asked based on a conflict of interest:

  1. Should people who receive a paycheck from the government - vote?
  2. Should people who place their lives on the line (i.e. law enforcement, firefighters or the military) be added to the list of question #1?
  3. Should people who receive a welfare check - vote?
  4. Should people who receive a tax check back after paying no taxes- vote?
  5. Who

Well it was to say a lively discussion with a lot of views.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! This is a day we all stop and give thanks for the blessing God has given to us not only over the past year; but, throughout our lives. Whether we are thankful for our children, our family, our friends and/or the people in our lives. We live in a nation that allows us the freedoms that God, our founding fathers and those that have stood the wall for us.

GOD I thank you for the blessing of this day and the life you have given me.

Furnance Filters

If you have not changed the filter in your furnace yet now is the time to do so. It is important to keep that furnace filter clean and to change it on a regular basis, so the furnace will to operate more efficiently.

How to pick a filter for your system:

  • Look at the filter in its slot in the furnace.
  • Look to see if there are gaps around filter.
    • If there are no gaps, then look at the edge of the filter to find the filter size (example: 25x15x1).
    • If there are gaps, with a measuring tape , measure the filter slot and buy a filter that is closest to your measurements; but not larger than those measurements.
    • Remember the tighter the fit the better the filter will perform. A custom filter is in most cases is better than a store bought filter.
  • Look in the furnace owner's manual to see its air flow requirements. This is important because some furnaces can not handle the more dense filtering material found in the more high end filters. If the filter material is too dense for the furnaces air flow needs you will be reducing the life of the furnace because it is now having to work harder.

If you have an odd size filter or just want a better filter call me and I can direct you to where to get the right filter.
