We took a little vacation to the coast. We visited the Pelican Brew Pub and climbed the sanddune. The wedding on the beach was sweet. The sunset was amazing as water sunsets always are.

We made a difference at Make a Difference Day.
Our local Watershed Council hosted Make a Difference Day. There were really two big events I wanted to go to but time for only one, so I chose the tree planting at Arnold Park.
I brought my two favorite men along. They are awesome and showed themselves to be great tree planters.
We were late getting there but still had time to plant 20 or so trees. It was really heart warming to see so many people there to contribute to planting the trees to protect the creek and enhance the trail. Nice to see so many people there to make a difference.
At the lunch provided I had the pleasure of talking to one of the Urban Forestry commission members. His daughter told me about the pleasure of visiting and seeing the trees they've planted the last couple of years on Make a Difference Day. How cool is that? I'm looking forward to visiting with my son and husband as today's trees mature and planting again next year.

Laura's Spider Babies
Laura Sauermilch, of Green Drinks fame, brought "spider babies" to the last meeting. They are from the spider plant that thrives at her house. I don't actually remember where she hangs the spider plant but I do remember a bunch of seedlings on stools in the middle of the kitchen that were growing under the skylights. Laura may have a green thumb besides a green hobby!
Anyways, at the last meeting, Laura had brought in several 'spider babies' for adoption and I took a few. I've been a bit distracted and so here is as far as I've gotten to getting them settled in.
Plants are helpful for improving in-door air quality; not quite as good as HEPA filter systems, but a good natural thing to do. Plus, having green living things around you is good for your psyche. There's probably a study somewhere that supports that.
When you are considering selling your home, consider the addition of healthy green plants in the decor. Some plants, at the right time, will also be able to provide delightful splashes of color. These are very subtle helpers for making people feel comfortable when they are in your home. If the buyer feels comfortable, they are a little closer to making a purchase.

It's that time of year when I start hearing the question "Shouldn't we wait until after the holidays?". This question comes from sellers who have been on the market (with a different real estate agent) all summer and since they haven't sold, they think they'll just wait 'til later. And it comes from buyers who think there'll be more homes after Christmas or Easter. And also sellers who really are ready to go, but just don't realize there's no time like the present.
There is less competition during the holidays!.Okay - so this is true if you're a real estate agent. I generate lots of business during the holiday season, just because I'm not waiting. But, this is true if you are selling a home too. Actually in the Vancouver, WA market, we have a very low number of homes available right now and so when the holiday season hits with it's customary lull of available homes, things are going to get pretty slim for homebuyers. So, if you REALLY want to sell your home, get it on the market now. The holidays will do you a favor. There are two particular reasons why you should market your home during the holidays. The first reason is that your competition is probably waiting until after the holidays. The second reason is that the homebuyers you see active during the holidays are SERIOUS BUYERS. I don't know about you, but I think that is the best kind to open your home to.
So, Mr. or Ms. Buyer, you think this means you should lay low during the holidays? BAH HUMBUG, I say. For the same reason it's good for the seller to market during the holiday season, it will be good for you. First, especially when there is so often competing bids for a well-priced home in the Vancouver, WA market, you'll be competing with fewer buyers. Secondly, these homesellers are determined to sell their homes. Who wants to try to buy from someone who doesn't care if they sell?

There is a great little store in downtown Vancouver, Washington that specializes in ecologically sound home surfaces - particularly counter-tops and floors. The company is Ecolution NW. Visit their website for details about their products.
What I like about Ecolution starts with how I learned of them. My first visit was when I attended classes presented by Urban Farm School there. How cool that the business would make their space available for that! That's when I learned the next thing I like about them - the products they sell are really ecologically sound. The owners have researched and delivered the materials that are most local when possible, and sustainably and responsibly harvested or processed. Plus beautiful! The next thing I learned is what genuinely nice people have created this business.
