Consequences

Webster's defines the phrase "taking the consequences" as "accepting the results of one's actions".

I have been a Realtor for more than 22 years, and in that time, I have worked through every type of market. Never in the past 22 years have I seen a situation that was more avoidable than the market we currently find ourselves in.

The consequences we are suffering are the result of the banking world's suspension of logic. Greed has motivated these institutions to break their own rules by lowering or completely ignoring their standards to open up the market to historically unqualified individuals. By doing so, they failed to recognize the possibility that they might be sowing the seeds of their own destruction.

In a perfect world, we all have the opportunity to realize the dream of home ownership and live happily ever after. But the honest truth is, many have made the choice to live their lives irresponsibly, and no amount of social engineering or good intentions will alter the path they have chosen for themselves.

It has been said that "no good deed is left unpunished". Indiscriminate lending has left us hurting right now, but we can all be assured that the market will turn around eventually, because markets always do.

As responsible citizens, let's get back to the basics of following the rules and being fair to one another, and we will be back on top again.

Good luck to us all!
