Recent blog by Laura Sampson, on color, inspired me to share with you , what was introduced to me as a party game by a guest psychologist (apparently it is more than just a game)

Ask yourself what is your most favorite color, or possibly more than one. Than describe what it represents to you personaly, how it makes you feel. The more adjuctives - the better.

Do not feel guided by any interpretations of color that you have ever heard.

I am back from DCOTA (Design Center Of The Americas) attending 2009 fall market.

As always, elegant affair offering variety of lectures,presentations,book signings by visiting celebrity designers. I was specifically looking forward to meeting Barklay Butera, young ,very talented and accomplished designer, who was known in the beginning of his carrier as " Blue Boy" for his blue/white interiors .His rooms were lavishly accessorized ( meaning- overly). I have been watching his style change over the years.

His topic was "Decorating In A New Economy". I might get some useful insite - I thought.

Extensive display of his work was presented by Kravet showroom. Butera, as you know ,designed several GREAT collections of fabrics for Kravet.

Somehow his presentation didn't relate very much to the promised topic. I decided, that it must be difficult for any designer, who works with multi million dollars budget clients. ( 26 million dollars hotel he did , for example) to translate to New Economy limitations. O, Well.

Once in a while I am checking what our TV celebrity experts of staging have to say. I am not pleased to observe, (in very many cases!) that they confirm our clients "motto" that designers follow their own idea without making effort of transforming features of existing decor and using them as inspiration of a upgraded look.

I will never agree with any staging expert , that intense color on walls is to personal and that walls have to be painted neutral. I strongly believe that color has immense influence on the psyche! I believe that red, strong blue, orange,yellow or green could be a SELLING FACTOR.It would definitely work for me.

Am I alone??

Since staging is not on top of the list of my decorating services, I have a question to you....experts : How effective ( if at all) is,what I call , "vignette staging " in very large homes, where one only wants to give suggestion of lifestyle.This has been my only experience , so far. It was done in spirit of cooperation between realtor and decorator and not for profit.
