On Sunday February 5th I arrived at Camp LeJuene NC to watch my son embark from a bus full of returning Marines...

You see my son was deployed on March 23, 2011 on the USS Mesa Verde and he was part of an historic 10 1/2 month deployment.

Emotions were high and Marines for the first time got to see their newborn sons and daughters...

I meet my Facebook Marine mom Luann after months of e-mails, Skype sessions and Facebook. Luann son Tyler and my son became the best of friends while aboard ship. I felt like I knew her for years...we supported each other while our sons were away. A friendship I will always treasurer...

It was quite an experience...one I will never forget!!!!!!

Thank you to all of our men and women who serve in our Military for your sacrifice and dedication....OOOOOH RAHHHHHH

This is an awesome way to keep in touch and great way to tell your loved ones that you are there to support them and they are always in your hearts and mind. A great motivational tool with lasting memories!!

My son PFC Ryan Kotchenreuther a Marine, was deployed to the Mediterranean a few weeks ago. He will not be home until March. I am so thankful that the Military has this tool for me to use to keep in touch with him.

EMPTY BOWLS EVENT

Now is the time to purchase your tickets for the upcoming Empty Bowls event. Tickets usually sell out fast, so don't put it off! Empty Bowls, a fund raising event for local food banks, is coordinated by our Resident Artist in Clay County NC, Mike Lalone. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from our Craft Shop, United Community Bank in Hayesville, and the Chamber of Commerce in Murphy.

Participants choose a bowl from a variety of beautiful hand made bowls donated by our local potters. The Folk School Dining Hall then serves a hearty meal of soup, bread, salad, and dessert, while live music is enjoyed.

A brown bag auction will be held at 6:00 pm, where other pieces of locally made pottery are available. Extra bowls will be on sale for $20 after the event. Contact Mike Lalone at 828-361- 2462
