Home Depot - Faux Wood Blinds Cut To Size
This past weekend, my wife was at the JC Penney Home Store on 119th and Metcalf and she noticed that the faux wood blinds were 40%, which made them approximately $25 each. This was much cheaper than other quotes we had been getting for similar blinds. Sears was around $70 and 3 Day Blinds was about $115, so we decided go with the more economical version!
We measured our windows and the opening was right at 33 1/2 inches, and of course the only two available sizes were 32 and 34. We opted for the larger size because the associate said that the blinds overstate the measurements, so they were actually 33 1/2 when marked 34. When we got them home I got the brackets mounted and the blinds up, but unfortunately they were just millimeters too large. The top fit, but the individuals blinds were bending because of the tight fit! Why are home projects so difficult?
We went to the local Home Depot and were disappointed to find the same sizes, just 32 and 34, but after talking to the helpful salesperson, she said they will cut the blinds to size...for free! There was a machine right next to the blinds that can cut the blinds, with the smallest cut being 1/4 inch. Wow! I was so impressed with this service. Say good-bye to custom blinds and hello to the handy machine! One tip the salesperson gave us was to be careful and not cut too much off because the brackets are on the ends and if it gets too short, they will slide around. The Home Depot blinds were around $28 each and after cutting the blinds, we took them home and they look great!
Anyone else with odd shaped windows, or windows that are just millimeters off, head to your local Home Depot and they can customize your faux wood blinds for free! Here is a link to the Home Depot Faux Wood Blinds
Trolley’s Downtown Bar and Grille
I’d driven by Trolley’s on 135th Street many times, so we finally decided to stop in and try it! We went on a Friday evening around 7:00 and the wait was only about 15 minutes. While waiting for a table we went to the massive bar area to grab a drink. There were multiple flat screen TV’s and a large projection TV playing sports. All the chairs at the bar were full, but there wasn’t a crowd of people standing around, so it wasn’t difficult to get a drink. The restaurant itself has a lot of exposed brick and even has an old movie marquee that said Happy Birthday to Sarah! We were seated at table, but I wish we could’ve sat at a booth because they are under an arch of bricks. Very cool effect.
We started with the Thai Lettuce Wraps which were absolutely delicious. They were made of chicken, mushrooms and water chestnuts served with carrots, red cabbage, rice noodles and lettuce cups and came with two sauces. These had quite a bite to them, but were very memorable.
My wife and I ordered the same entrée, the Chicken Azteca which was chicken topped with onions and peppers, Cajun corn, black beans and white queso. The waiter kindly informed us that BBQ sauce usually comes on it as well, but is not mentioned on the menu. We both opted out of that because it didn’t seem to go with the other ingredients! The meals were tasty and the portion sizes were good. I must admit that we enjoyed the appetizer more than the entrees, but it was still a great experience. I’m sure we will stop into Trolley’s again!

An article in the Kansas City Star stated that Kansas City ranked number 40 in foreclosures in a study of the 100 largest metropolitan areas. Foreclosures were up in our metropolitan area almost 84% from 2006 and estimated that almost 1.2% of all area households were in foreclosure.
While that number is up from previous years, 1.18% is a far cry from the nation's leaders: Detroit at 4.9% and Stockton, California at 4.8% of homes in foreclosure.
Remember to, that although this number was a large increase over 2007, only 1.18% homes are in foreclosure, which means that 98.82% of Kansas City homes are NOT!
