I have been a member of the Johnson County Library for years, and lately they have been making some impressive changes to make checking out books easier and faster. You are able to search for books online, and then place holds on books. This not only ensures you get the book you want, but also features inter-library transfers. So if another branch has the book you want, you don't have to drive all the way across town, they will transfer it to your location of choice.
In the past, once arriving at the library you had to wait in line at the main counter to have the librarian retrieve your held books. Not anymore! They have recently made a great change that saves you a lot of time! The held books are still kept behind the main counter, but now, you are able to walk back behind the counter and get your own books. They are in alphabetical order by your last name and are very easy to find. Then, you are able to use the self-checkout computers to get the books. No more long lines!
I'm also very impressed with the activities at the library. It's programming is not just about reading and books, but there is an extensive calendar of events that ranges on topics from cooking to taxes! Johnson County residents are lucky to have such a great resource in the community!
Valentine's Day In Kansas City
Valentine's Day is one of those holiday's that
is enjoyed by those with significant others and virtually ignored by all the
single men and women around town! Although I am happily married now, I spent
many, many Valentine's Days as a single guy and I was always looking for
something... anything to do on that evening!
Luckily, many area Kansas City hangouts are throwing Anti-Valentine's Parties!
So while the couples will be waiting hours in line at local restaurants, singles
have plenty of opportunities to dance the night away!

Although the restaurant/bar One 80 has been open in Westport for a while, I only recently discovered what a gem it is! We arrived about 7:00 on a Saturday night and there was immediate seating. It was busy, but not overly crowded. The atmosphere is great, a dimly lit restaurant with soft red lighting and large booths. We ordered two martini's off their extensive drink menu and both were great! We got a great surprise when the waitress brought us small glasses with extra drinks in them. She said the bartender accidentally made to much and wanted us to have them! Now that's service!
For dinner we ordered the Parmesan-Encrusted Chicken and the spicy Baked Penne Rossa. Both of our dinners were excellent and the portion sizes were perfect, ample size without being too large. The presentation was very classy and the flavors were great.
I must say that One 80 was quite a pleasant surprise for both of us. The prices were reasonable, the service and food were excellent and the atmosphere was great. We will definitely be returning!
