So our office building caught fire on TThursday Oct 30th. Our office was mostly unharmed with the exception of smoke issues that still fill the building, but the office below us is completely toast (excuse the pun) Due to a candle left burning in their offices they are at a total loss, and the whole building is without their offices until at least January. But rolling with the punches like we do....
Within 24 hours of the fire our broker (and a little of my help) had our server up and running, had a temporary office found, a computer set up so agents can check email etc, a printer, and copy machine found that would get us by for the first few days. With a lot of elbow grease, and a few bottles of cleaner and one very long weekend the office was at least decent looking. Within two weeks the broker has replaced carpeting himself, Painted doors, Painted walls, painted more walls, replaced doors, fixed plumbing, changed lights, ran wires for phones and Internet, got the front sign made, and put up. A few early mornings and late nights, and this temporary office is beginning to feel like a home. On top of all the work he has done, he has also recruited 5 new agents to our new home, and we could not be more happy with them. They are exactly what we need. I want to give Kudos to Greg Fox for all the work he has done, with the fire, we did not miss a beat.
The fire brought up a few thoughts. Before we were allowed in to see the damage we did not know if we still had all of our files. We did not keep electronic files, we only had the paper copies. If those burned we would have to recreate files for the last three years. We now have a service that will keep all of our files electronicly so if anything does happen we will still have everything we would need
