99. Same goes for the beer.... "Hurry! Everyone drink the beer before it gets hot"

98. Listening to callers on the am radio while hunkering down in your house is kinda like ghost stories around the campfire.

97. Lots of quality family time.

96. Friends, family and acquaintances you haven't heard from in a long time are calling, texting, and emailing to see if you are ok.

93. Swapping storm stories is a good way to get to know your neighbors (so is seeing straight into each others windows from the fence being knocked down :)

92. Getting in line at the gas station you have a higher chance of getting on an episode of Cops ( hopefully as a witness, not someone in the fight)

Hurricane Ike Storm Damage Update for Pearland and Manvel Homes

I went to Pearland and Manvel today to check on homes for out of town clients. All of the neighborhoods I visited had similar damage which included knocked down fences, a few to many shingles missing, landscaping damage especially to larger trees, and damage to caport structures. The electricity is off in many areas. No flooding was seen in the areas I visited. Here is a list, the data is current as off 4 pm on Sunday September 14th:

Southgate: moderate damage, no electricity

South Fork: moderate damage, no electricity

Shadowcreek: moderate damage, some areas do have electricity, others do not

Silvercreek: moderate damage, no electricity, I got comments from residents that the David Powers homes had little to no damage whereas the A.W. builder homes had moderate to severe shingles loss this seemed to be anecdotally true from the few homes I looked at. That is not an endorsement or negative comment on either builder... just an observation of home owners.

Silverlake: moderate damage, no electricity

I did not find any gas stations with gas. The new HEB near broadyway and 288 S appeared to be open and the lot was packed. If anyone has any other updates or info on other areas, please post a comment! I have pics of the neighborhoods which I will upload asap.

My own home has been out of electricity since 9:15 pm on Friday evening. Also my huge mature oak in my front yard was completely uprooted and landed on my roof. I've got some roof damage and fence damage. Luckily I was waiting out the storm across the street, not in my own house. Things are actually much better than I dared hope for. I have some awesome pics showing the uprooted tree. It is really an amazing sight that will make you respect the power of mother nature. I will post all of my home pics and neighborhood damage pics asap. Since I am at my cousin's I am missing a few piece of tech equipment at the moment.

I am fortunate enough to be staying with a cousin in Richmond in Riverpark. They've got electricity and running water! That means hot showers, air conditioning, and lights! Oh the simple pleasures! Really after a couple days without those conveniences you really can miss them. The electricity also means I can spend all this freetime on the computer working on odds and ends and writing my blog:)

Update on Hurricane Damage to Sugar Land & Richmond Neighborhoods Fort Bend County

Tree on my roof:

Hurricane Ike Houston Tree damage to roof

Post Hurricane Ike I drove through several neighborhoods in the Sugar Land, Richmond, and Pearland area to check on damage to my properties and the properties of my out of town clients. Here is my damage update as of Sunday September 14th around 6 pm:

Neighborhoods with light damage including minor fence damage, moderate tree damage, and shingle damage:

River Park : they currently have electricity and running water.

River Park West : they currently have electricity and running water.

Sweetwater: many of the homes with the Mediterranean style tile roofs appeared to sustain more roof damage than the shingle type.

Chimneystone : more severe damage to the larger more mature trees than the newer neighborhoods with smaller trees.

Settler's Park : more severe damage to the larger more mature trees than the newer neighborhoods with smaller trees.

Avalon : more severe damage to the larger more mature trees than the newer neighborhoods with smaller trees.

A few isolated businesses were open. Gringo's the restaurant is open on the feeder of 59S and they were packed! No flooding was seen today in Sugar Land or Richmond in the areas I visited. Most areas appeared to have power. Only a few down power lines were seen. The majority of the street lights were completely off. See my post on gasoline for a list of stations who still have gas. I did not see any homes with windows blown out, like what was seen downtown. I have pictures of the neighborhood damage and will upload them as soon as possible. If anyone has other information to add please leave a comment! I am putting up a separate post for Pearland.

Open gas stations with gas in Houston, Pearland, Sugar Land, Richmond

If you are in town, you know that gas supply is very limited. While out driving around checking on my property and my out of town clients property I thought I'd fuel up again if I had the chance. Most of the gas stations I drove by did not have any gas. I got a few tips on stations that had gas, but when I went to them, they all had lots of cars parked at the pump and lining up down the street, but no actual gas. They seemed be an urban myths. They were just open to sell chips, soda, gum etc. I am starting a list of station that I have seen actually do have gas, please add to the list if you have any updated information.

As of 7 pm Sunday September 14th these stations had gas in Sugar Land:

The Shell station at 59 feeder and Hwy 6 (although I am boycotting them)

The HEB station at 59 and 99 in Sugar Land

The Shell lost my business after leaving people to wait in line an hour or more and not mentioning to them that they were only accepting cash. This was on Thursday and I can' t see any physical reason for them not to accept cash since the storm hadn't hit yet. They were refusing to take credit cards at any pumps or at the attendant and didn't offer any reason for their choice much less apologies. The Indian attendant when I was there was actually very flippant about it. Needless to say after waiting an hour in line and with my tank on empty (not even having enough gas to get home) I was very displeased and will no longer be giving them my business.

If anyone has more current info on stations with gas please add in the comments for everyone. Thanks!

Update as of Monday morning:

The Wal-mart in Richmond on Fm 762 has gas as well as the Exxon across the street. My cousins got in line at the Exxon this morning. There were only 2 pumps working and they were pumping very slowly. They were 5th in line when they got there, and it took them 2 hours to get gas! They said when they left there were 20 people in line around noon. Police had showed up for crowd and traffic control. They talked to some other people there and some had come all the way from Pearland because they couldn't find any gas there.

Residents in Rosenberg have also told me some of the stations there still have gas, but I don't have info on any specific locations yet.

Friends have called to let me know there is gas at the WalMart in Pasadena on Fairmont, the hours are limited.
