I will be right back) and turns into a great shot.

Presenting the first Denver Photo Journal ever! Photos from around Denver and of all things Colorado.

WANTED! Armed and Dangerous - Obnoxious weeds in Douglas County CO

Wanted! Dangerous, Obnoxious Weeds!

Noxious Weeds in Douglas County Colorado

Not only are these weeds obnoxious but the are aggressive too. Their plan is to take over the area and they have pulled out all the stops. Nobody is safe from these rascals. The are known to sneak upon you, they may even be right around the corner. Waiting.

Douglas County Colorado information - noxious weeds

They even penetrate through concrete! Are they unstoppable?

Douglas County Colorado information - noxious weeds

These perpetrators are armed (with seeds) and dangrous and must be aprehended immediately and brought down!

Douglas County Colorado information - noxious weeds

Seriously though,

Noxious weeds are plants that are not native to the area and aggressively spread due to the lack of natural controllers of the weeds (such as animals, inspects and disease). The noxious weeds are replacing the natural plants and distroying natural ecosystems in a rapid rate. In 2005 there were 73 different noxious weeds identified in Douglas County. Because of the problems they cause, the local and state governments have made it a law to reduce, eradicate and control these noxious weeds.
Now usually you would like to find yourself on the A-list, not so with these pesky weeds. Some of the more "dangerous" and troublesome weeds are grouped to A-list offendors that need to be silenced and terminated immediately.

Have you seen any of these "offenders" - they are a few of the Most Wanted!
  • Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)
  • Orange hawkweed (Hieracium aurantiacum)
  • Yellow starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis)
  • Myrtle spurge (Euphorbia myrsinites)
  • Dyer's woad (Isatis tinctoria)
  • Mediterranean sage (Salvia aethiopis)
  • Medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae)
... you get the idea, there are a bunch of these rascals on this A-list; about ten more species (and we did't even get to the B-list folks). So what do these guys look like? You can find "mugshots" including close-ups, profiles and information on how to prevent, control and eradicate the noxious weeds on the Douglas County Website
