Why is Ocala Florida so desirable for Horses?

Ocala's Northwest Farms

Did you know that there are only 4 known places in the world that are strongly desirable for horses?

Owning horses in various areas of the country can most definitely be a great thing and in many other locations there are things that can be enjoyed that Ocala doesn't offer. For example, going for a ride in Gatlinburg Tennessee you can find some of the most picturesque trails and as nice as that is, it still doesn't create the environment that is conducive to raising strong healthy horses.

Lexington, Kentucky and Ocala, Florida have similar qualities which make them both desirable locations for horses. Both locations compete for the title of The Horse Capital of the World! Both are certainly worthy. Personally I prefer to give that name to the location where I reside, Ocala, Florida. So is it the terrain? The weather? The people with the finances to afford all that the horse industry demands? On all of those issues there are varying answers, so what is it and why would you even consider Ocala as a place to raise horses. To that I pose a further question, is all of Ocala desirable for horse properties?

OK have I taunted you enough? Aroused your curiosity? Well it has everything to do with the #8! Yes, #8! #8 soil is what horses thrive on, it is what helps their bones grow strong and feeds their bodies with the nutrients that it needs. You see #8 soil contains sand to a small depth and just below that sand is lime rock which is incredibly helpful at producing nutrient dense grass for the horses!

We humans would like to take our vitamins and eat fast-food hamburgers as opposed to eating properly and healthily thereby getting the nutrients that our bodies need to grow strong. Horses don't have that luxury. They grow according to what they are fed and can't choose the easy way out. We can supplement their diets all we want but there is nothing better then feeding them on nutrient dense foods that allow their bodies to maximize the benefits contained in it and grow the best darn horse that that horse was created to be.

Not all of Ocala has # 8 soil. The Northwest section of Ocala contains the lions share of #8 soil and that is why the big winning farms all want to be there!

Just as a side note, Ocala allows the horse industry to continue all the way through the winter without snow and ice. The sandy soil here is wonderfully cushioned for the horses and the concussion that they face while in motion. So if you're looking to raise some strong, healthy horses and be able to ride them all year round, the answer is simple. Come on down to Ocala and let me assist you in finding your dream home in the NW side of town and enjoy raising the best, strongest horses around! You'll be glad you did.

Have a Great Day!

Marion Landing a 55+ Community in Ocala Florida

Clubhouse at Marion Landing Clubhouse View

Location, Location, Location! That is what best describes Marion Landing in a nutshell! This community is just off Hwy 200 in Ocala, so close to shopping, medical needs, a brand spanking new mall and I-75 is just a few miles down the road. That's all wonderful stuff but more than that the community has a wide range of house prices and styles and a wonderful clubhouse with a large in ground pool, tennis courts and a bowling alley! Amenity fees are very reasonable too. Oh my! I don't want to push it but 55 is looking better every day. At one point Marion Landing was an 80% 55+/20% 18+ community or 80/20 as it is referred to and then became a 90/10. Those days are rapidly coming to a close as it nears the ability to become 100% 55+ residents.

Living nearby Marion Landing, I often see folks out for a walk with their friends or their pets enjoying the fresh air and sunshine along the beautifully landscaped roads with bunnies hopping all around. The Clubhouse almost always has some kind of activity going on, it is rare to see the parking lot empty. Seems pretty active to me! Another really nice feature is that there are several churches within walking distance of the entrances to the community.

There are quite a few subdivisions where you may want to consider retiring to, Marion Landing is certainly one of them. When you look at all the attributes of Marion Landing and the length of time that people live there in comparison to other 55+ communities I think Marion Landing is a wonderfully desirable community to spend some of your latter years in the warmth of Ocala. No matter where you came from you may not want to return after you've spent some fun times in Marion Landing.

Horse Happenings in Ocala

The winters here in Ocala are a wonderful and exciting time filled with equestrian activities that will keep you busy nearly every weekend. After all, we are the Horse Capital of the World! I know we compete for that title with Kentucky but our climate is tops for horses!

We are so fortunate to have the Florida Horse Park (FHP) it is 500 acres of the most beautiful terrain located on the Florida greenway just south of Ocala proper it spans between 475A and 475. The best part is that most of the events can be seen free of charge or at a very minimal fee. My favorite thing to do is to volunteer for these events, this gives me a birds eye view of the horses that I love so much! It is awesome to see how horse & rider can work together and perform so beautifully. This doesn't just happen, horses need to trust their rider. The relationship that is between horse and rider is easily seen in the way the horse takes the course with ease and grace. I can always pick out a horse that the rider has spent a lot of time with and cultivated a bond with that horse. They just perform with their whole heart and want their rider's approval and recognition. It is a heart felt thing!

I live here in Ocala, I sell Real Estate here, when you come and see Ocala I know you'll want live here and be a full-time or part-time resident, possibly own a mini-farm or larger, maybe you'd like to just own one of our picturesque homes and visit all the "horsey happenings." One way or the other, I'm here to help you and as my motto is I'll be "Bringing You Home" to the place you've always dreamed about. If you'd like to visit for a few days and enjoy the park, campers are welcome with RV's and horse bearing trail riders are able to ride the many trails at the park. We have lots of hotels, I'd love to send you a list of places to stay. I'd love to send you a free map of Ocala and show you around when you arrive! The FHP is very accommodating and would love to help make your visit to Ocala a fun one! Visit them online to keep abreast of upcoming events at http://www.flhorsepark.com/.
