Greetings from Brookings, Oregon! We are situated on the Southern Oregon Coast at the mouth of the Chetco River. We have a mild climate and boast a year round average temperature of 65*F. We are nick-named the "Banana Belt" and yes bananas can actually grow here along with lemons and limes. While you are here you can enjoy many ocean and river sports including; fishing, crabbing, clamming, whale watching, boating, kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, beach combing, horseback riding, hiking, camping and so much more. Activities happen all year long and some of them include; Azalea Festival, Kite Festival, Slammin' Salmon Fishing Derby, Art Walks, Concerts in the Park, Saturday Farmer''s Market and a local Playhouse with productions all year long. There is so much scenic coastline and wooded mountains surrounding Brookings, it truly is a beautiful place to live. We are near the Redwood National Forest, the Wild and Scenic Rogue River and the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area. Brookings is really an undiscovered paradise. Once you come and visit you will want to stay a life time.

Ocean Fest 2008
Ocean Fest 2008 is a volunteer community-based event designed to expose the positive values of local communities and the Port of Brookings Harbor. Some of those values include, the mighty Pacific Ocean which is accessed through the Port of Brookings Harbor. Also, the pink shrimp that is harvested off of the southern Oregon and northern California coast has recently been classified as a sustainable resource. The first time ever for an ocean fishery to meet this classification. The Port of Brookings Harbor is classified as a "Critical Port of Refuge" on the navigational charts, and the Port of Brookings Harbor is the only US Coast Guard Oregon base for a 100+ mile stretch of coastline. All dollars raised from this event will be donated to the Port to help reduce the debt. Ocean Fest 2008 is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2008.
With a purchase of a $15 ticket your choice of food includes; crab, shrimp, English sole, chowder, pizza, breadsticks, coleslaw, shrimpwraps and salad. bar-b-que oysters, beer, pop, and wine will be available for an additional charge. Activities include: the Boy Scouts starting the event with the Color Guard and Pledge. King Neptune outfitted by Leslie Wolfe (a local artist); an interactive boat that shows five different ways that a boat can sink and what can be done to keep it afloat. The US Coast Guard will be giving tours on their 47' rescue boat and will have a safe boating booth. Tidewinds will be providing harbor tours on their charter boat for $5/person.
