April 30th is the deadline to file for the residential homestead exemption homeowners can use to lower their school taxes. The appraisal district is who processes the application, and if you live in Travis County you can contact the Travis County Appraisal District.
In addition the homestead exemption homeowners who are over 65 or disabled can qualify for the state exemption and receive an additional $10,000 school tax exemption on their home, and a lock-in on the school taxes. This exemption will survive the spouse if the remaining spouse is 55 years or older, owns the home, and is a resident.
Don't let the year pass you by without taking advantage of this great benefit offered by the great State of Texas; remember file by APRIL 30th !!

The yet to be named Elementary in southwest Austin, located in the subdivision of Meridian, is well under way. Construction is moving at a rapid pace and the school is taking shape and sure to be ready for the 2010-2011 school year. It's a beautiful campus nestled among the trees, with a semi-circle drive and a neighborhood full of children ! It's a great addition to the Austin Independent School District, southwest Austin, and Meridian subdivision.
I was finally able to preview a couple of the homes being built in Gabardine, located off of Frate Barker between Manchaca Rd. and Brodie Ln. This gated community feeds into some of the best schools in Austin; Baranoff Elementary, Bailey Middle School, and Bowie High School. The slow building progress on this quaint subdivision has picked up recently, and the homes are too cute to miss. From the Craftsman style trim, front porch benches, and neighborhood flowers these homes have charm galore, and priced from the low $170's you can't beat the price.
Call me if you're interested in learning more about Gabardine, or would like a chance to have one built just for you at (512) 914-6118 or visit my website at www.AustinHomeSells.com
As an update to the construction on the new elementary in Meridian...construction is proceeding with great speed. It appears they are keeping as many trees as possible making for a more beautiful campus. The school has not been named yet, and will be ready for the 2010-2011 school year. Meridian is home to many elementary age children who will benefit from this new school, as well as the children in Circle C. With the overcrowding of Clayton Elementary this new school will be a welcome addition to AISD.
