We have a mild cold spell here in Minnesota right now, but it is to warm soon.
But, next week another cold snap is coming forward. Below temps are expected and there are alot of concerns.

Some plants.
If you have to prepare for the worst...now is the time to get on it. After the cold is gone will be to late.
I have blogged about the poor ice conditions on Minnesota lakes and streams. My friend Ole understands the importance and I believe that his story will drive it home...
Ole and Lena live on a lake in Nodern Minnesota. It vas early dis vinter and da lake vas froze over.
Ole asked Lena if she vould valk across dda frozen lake to da yeneral store to get him some smokes. She asked him for some money, but Ole told her, Nah, yust put it on our tab.
So Lena walked across the frozen lake, got the smokes and walked back home across the lake. When she got home she gave Ole his smokes and asked him...
"Ole, you alvays tell me not to run up da tab at da store. Why didn't you yust give me some money?"
Ole replied..."Vell, I didn't vant to send you out dere vit some money ven I vasn't sure how tick the ice vas yet!"
Once again, please be careful on our lakes and streams!
You knew it was bound to happen...one semi-cold day (5 above) and some fool would try and go where they should not on the ice.
The guy fell through the ice on a local river. My opinion, ice is never safe on a river where there is always a current and that current is always changing.
The rescue team hauled his sorry butt out of the cold and now he has to get his machine out of the water. There will also be a big fine for having a motor vehicle no mater what kind fall into the water.
Now, I am no hypocrite, as I also go on the ice of LAKES when we have had a good cold spell and the resort owner confirms 8-10 inches of SOLID ice. Although this sounds safe, I don't stray far from where it is suggested to be without someone with me and a I am testing the area as I go.
Please be careful. When the rescue squad saves your butt, they are also putting their lives on the line.
No, we did not get any real amount of snow...this is from last year!
The Campaign is in full swing.
The posturing is taking place.
Sound bites are everywhere.
Everyone says they care about YOU.
Everyone says that "I can get it done."
What I believe is that in the end we will be in much of the same position as always...

But, at least we don't have to do the stairs!
The phone has been quiet the first 9 days of this new year. Much unlike the end of last year.
So, with no appointments on the board for today, I called a few people in my sphere and did a few mailings. I checked in with a couple past clients and the grabbed my phone and chainsaw and headed for the woods.
It was 49 degrees here in Minnesota. There is a lot of outdoor work I can do with these temps.
So after 5 hours I had a very nice load of firewood and a a new client call. (I check my phone every half hour or so when I am out in the woods.)
Tomorrow, I will set up an appointment with the new caller, unload my wood and get a start on the new year Real Estate season for me.
With weather like this, sitting in the house twiddling my thumbs just is not an option.
