In local circles, Stayton, Oregon is famous for Pioneer Park and Jordan Covered Bridge. Stayton also boasts an active downtown community, a highly popular library and several beautiful neighborhood parks. What you may not know is Stayton has adopted a trails system to link many of the neighborhood highlights together. With the assistance of the National Park Service and local volunteers, the City of Stayton believes they have put together a system of trails sure to make residents smile. Miles of trails cross the city and invite residents and visitors alike to get to know the heartbeat of Stayton.
Pioneer Park is home to the second edition of the Jordan Covered Bridge. The original bridge burned down several years ago and through the efforts of many volunteers and donations
the bridge was re-built. The Bridge itself is home to the yearly Covered Bridge Festival held in the fall. The park plays host to several weddings and it is favorite of local kids for a pick-up game of basketball. A covered BBQ area also brings families and friends out for reunions and impromptu gatherings. There is a picturesque section of trails behind the Jordan Bridge that lead to a surprisingly beautiful section of the North Santiam River. Not only is it a great place for a quick lunchtime walk or a picnic, it is also a fabulous opportunity to view many species of birds, including gold finches, Oregon Junco and many varieties of ducks.
Bring your camera, put on your walking shoes and come out to enjoy Stayton's Pioneer Park and Jordan Covered Bridge, you will be glad you did.
