Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 22 and show your support for the volunteers! The funds raised by the volunteers go to support the local Boy Scout Troop, the Boy Scout building heating and maintenance, the 4th of July Fireworks and the purchase of Gifts for the Giving Tree.
I had the opportunity last week to attend the Hope Builder Breakfast sponsored by The Mid Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity. I was invited by fellow broker, Michelle Hendricks whom graciously offered to fill a table for ten. Our office decided to attend as part of our regular office meeting.
According to the written information on our table:
Held at the Salem Conference Center, the room was filled to near capacity. This event was very well organized with volunteers outside the room to assist patrons to their prospective tables.
The program consisted of the Welcome Address by Jeroen Swanborn, a message "Much to Celebrate, More to Accomplish" by Rick Gaupo, "Let's Build It" DVD Presentation, testimonials by current and future homeowners; Jim Griffin and Tammy Thomas and the "Appeal for Assistance" by Marybeth Beall.
The Mid Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity has a goal of building 100 homes; with 35 homes in the next 4 years. In order to accomplish this goal, Habitat is asking for monetary donations as well as materials and the most precious donation of all, your time.
Habitat's next fund raiser will be the "Hearts and Hammers" Dinner and Auction, February 12, 2009. Tickets are $25.00

Don't for get to set back your clock tonight. It's also a good time to check and change your smoke detector batteries and perform seasonal computer maintenance. When was the last time you dumped your temporary Internet files or defraged your computer? Here are a few tips to help keep your computer running efficiently.
* Delete Temporary Internet Files
After even a short time on the Internet, your computer can accumulate thousands of unnecessary Temporary Internet Files. Boost your system performance and regain needed disk space by deleting them on a weekly or monthly basis. From any Internet Explorer window, click Tools, then Internet Options. The "Delete Files" button in the center section of the window will clean out your files.
* Update Virus Protection Software
Regardless of which software you use to protect your computer (Norton or AVG for example), it's important to keep your antivirus software up to date. Make sure your subscription is still active and that it's updating your virus definitions automatically on a regular basis. Refer to your specific program documentation for details.
* Defragment Computer
Defragmenting consolidates your available hard drive space and improves your computers' speed. Basically it picks up your files and puts them away where your computer can easily find the files instead of searching all over the place. Do this once a month by (instructions for XP) clicking on your Start Menu and going to All Programs, Accessories, and System Tools. The utility is called "Disk Defragmenter."
* Back Up Files
It's recommended you back up any data you "cannot afford to lose" to at least two separate devices - like once to a thumb drive, once to a CD-Rom. If you've never done it at all, any backup is better than none! Here's an article from Microsoft to get you started: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/backupfiles.mspx
