Finally TWO great biits of local news...
Colorado foreclosures fall in 2008 for 1st time in years:
Colorado foreclosure activity fell last year for the first time since the state began collecting data in 2003, according to a report released Monday by the Colorado Division of Housing.
S&P: Denver had smallest 2008 home-price decline of 20 U.S. cities:
The monthly S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices said average prices of existing homes in Denver fell 4 percent between December 2007 and December 2008, less than any of the other 19 cities in the report.
Dreaming of Denver:
If you jumble together the five most popular American metro areas - Denver, San Diego, Seattle, Orlando and Tampa - you get an image of the American Dream circa 2009. These are places where you can imagine yourself with a stuffed garage - filled with skis, kayaks, soccer equipment, hiking boots and boating equipment. These are places you can imagine yourself leading an active outdoor lifestyle.

Reality set in when I walked down the driveway this morning to pick up my Saturday morning paper and realized that "The Rocky" is gone - forever. Wow...150 years in Colorado and poof - vanished as if it never existed. The world is certainly changing and things will never be the same again. This is truly a sad day in Denver.
I know many of the reporters on a personal level and my heart goes out to them & their families. It's just a sign of the times. Rocky Mountain News - R.I.P. :-(

The "Walk Score" is a little widget that is starting to appear on many real estate websites including Zillow and local MLS/IDX listing websites. It basically tells you how close any particular location is to nearby amenities (businesses, parks, schools, places of worship, etc.). They ranked 2,508 neighborhoods and although I think Denver is a wonderful place to live, I had no idea it would rate so high. Check the site out and see where you city ranks.
Schwab to add 500 jobs in Douglas County: Charles Schwab Corp. will bring 500 new jobs to Colorado by 2011. The San Francisco-based brokerage (NASDAQ: SCHW), which currently employs 1,300 people in the state, is looking into reorganizing amid the global financial crisis, said Sherri Kroonenberg, senior vice president of Schwab Investor Services. While the company will pare down its total workforce, Schwab's footprint in the state will ultimately be larger.
Schwab will be looking for information-technology specialists with an average salary of $75,000 a year. The positions will be recruited from both inside and outside of the company.
