Buck's Pizza on Edisto Beach will be hosting a Offshore Challenge on May 22, 2010. The Captains meeting will be held in the Buck's Pizza parking lot on May 21, 2010 at 7:30 pm. Details are listed below:
Buck's Pizza Offshore Challenge
Scoring will be based on the combined weight of two (2) fish (Dolphin, Wahoo or Tuna)
May, 22, 2010 - Lines in at 7am
Scales Open at 4:00pm and close at 6:00pm
Awards will be handed out asap after 6:00pm
Captain's meeting will be on Friday May 21 at 7:30pm, 2010 at the Buck's Pizza located at 114-A Jungle Road, Edisto Beach, SC. Food and drink will be available. Shirts will be available as well. Entry fee will secure boat two tournament shirts.
This is a "No" Check out tournament with no boundaries, the only requirment is you have to make it to the Edisto Marina and check-in with the Tournament Director by 6pm in order to weigh your fish.
Official time will be GPS time.
Entry Fee is $300.00 per boat (please bring cash)
Cash prizes are awarded to the top five winning boats
Registration starts at 4:00pm May 21 at Bucks Pizza and ends at 7:30pm.
1st place paying over $5000.00 (based on 50 paid entries)

...I was reading a blog from another agent and she was slightly confused or uniformed about short sales. Help is on the way with the new HAFA program. The Gov't is encouraging homeowners who do not quailify for refinancing or loan modifications to short sale their home. As a matter of fact, they will even pay you some moving expense cash and pay the bank servicer to help cover the admistrative cost. Howver, this must be your primary residence, the mortgage not over $729,750, you must be behind on your payments(can't just dump the house because your house is underwater), and you can't have a sleuth assets that can be used for collateral.
So if you have a House at the beach it must be your primary resicence and can't have a mortgage over $730,000.

On November 30, 2009, the Treasury Department released guidelines and forms for its new Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program (HAFA). HAFA is part of the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). HAFA provides incentives in connection with a short sale or a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure (DIL) used to avoid foreclosure on a loan eligible for modification under the HAMP program. Servicers participating in HAMP are also required to comply with HAFA. A list of servicers participating in HAMP is available at MakingHomeAffordable.gov.
HAFA applies to loans not owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, which will issue their own versions of HAFA in coming weeks.
HAFA is a complex program, with 43 pages of guidelines and forms, designed to simplify and streamline use of short sales and deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure. HAFA:
The program does not take effect until April 5, 2010, but servicers may implement it before then if they meet certain requirements. The program sunsets on December 31, 2012.

Edisto Beach-Now That's Heaven!....use to be a bumper sticker slogan back in the '80s. It was something that you would see on all the cars as they cruised around the boulevard. Since I can remember, our family has always had a Beach House down on Edisto. Our first house was on Eddings Street, built by my grandfather who was a country contractor in Walterboro. Grandaddy, from the Depression Era, saved and salvaged the used building materials from an old schoolhouse that he had recently torn down. He used these materials to build our first Beach House. The house had no AC or Heat, no phone or cable, it had 3 bedrooms, a great room with twin beds lining the edges, a single bathroom with only a tub. It was primitive but it was heaven. Every night mom would spray the bugs and turn on old ricktey metal fans...we were at the beach and that's all that counted.
Sometime in the early '80s, we moved up to a Beach House on the second row with all the bells and whistles. We had AC and Heat and eventually we talked Dad into getting us cable. Now we were really in Heaven.
I have had so many fine and first memories on Edisto. First girl friend, learned to water ski, had my first beer, first real job, learn to deep sea fish, clean crabs off the dock, back a boat into the water,...oh the memories.
My first real job was at the IGA Grocery Store(the Piggly Wiggly). I started as a bag boy shagging groceries out to the cars and moping floors to eventually after eight summers to becoming the assitant manager. I had my own set of store keys-I thought that I was somebody. I really thought that after college that I would come back to the Edisto and manage the store. Life changed and I ended up owning my own Jewelry store in Walterboro. With the Grocery Store at the Beach a distant memory.
Somewhere in the late eighties, I gave real estate my first try as a career. I was twenty-two, naive and still green under the gills, and the fact that we had just come thru one the worst recessions that our country had seen since the Great Depression mad it tough to make a living. Well, I gave it a year, sold only one house(my father owner financed it) that year and decided to turn in my keys and look for a better way.
Luckily, my girl friend's father wanted to go into business together. I took him up on the offer and we started a small clothing store with a side line of fashion jewelry. After about a year, as it turned out, the retail clothing business was not for me and also the girlfriend seemed to be on the way out. So, I sent the girlfriend, dad and store packing and was off to my next adventure. While in the clothing business, I realized that their was a need for another Jewelry Store in our small town. That's the where and why I started the Jewelry business. Almost twenty years later, with a wonderful wife, and three beautiful kids and a very successful retail establishment.
It is hard to put my finger on it, I am not sure if it was a mid-life crisis or the need for achievement but at the age 40 I felt the call of adventure again. And that still small voice was calling me back to Edisto. I look into openning another jewelry store or maybe a gift shop. But the numbers didn't work for the jewelry store(too big investment for only 3 selling months) and I just wasn't into the gift thing. As I continued looking and dreaming, that still small voice got louder and louder. It said Cal, "you love Edisto, you know every square inch of the island, why not real estate?".
And you know the rest of the story, 2006 I went to work for Edisto Real Estate Company. It was the Dream Job that I had been preparing all of my life to do. What a wonderful life!
After the mandatory three years with working under a broker, I studied hard earned my education and passed my brokers license and opened The Edisto Beach Company- a high tech-high touch real estate company on Edisto.
Life is an Adventure, come with me and it will be my pleasure to share Edisto with you.
Edisto Beach is one of the few remaining uncommercialized, family-oriented beaches left on the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will not only find an absence of hotels and high rises but the people of Edisto prides itself in having a total of two grocery stores and three gas stations.
