Wordless (but not Musicless) Wednesday - Hot Hot HOT!

The thermometer on my patio reads 112 degrees. In the shade. This is only the beginning as temperatures will now rapidly ascend beyond the teens and into the one hundred twenties. They joke about it but it truly is a dry heat - relative humidity below 5% most of the time . . . It feels great, actually . . .

The Mind Wobbles . . .

. . . Some days I can't help but be AMAZED.

I referred a buyer to a GREAT agent and they've been house-hunting and making offers for a couple of months (in a brisk multi-offer market).

Got a CC this AM of a note to the loan goddess (also GREAT) that they needed a new approval letter and form for a property they are pursuing.

As they are nearing the 3 month mark, the loan diva did the right thing and pulled his credit again.

He is now 9 points under 'eligible approved'. WHY?

He has been CAR SHOPPING. 20 INQUIRIES are now on his trimerge and he is screwed.

No house for him for a while . . . wait it out and get those scores back up.

The amazing part of all this is, HE WAS ADVISED. By a good agent and a good loan professional.

Buyers! DO NOT shop for big ticket items or use your credit while you're qualifying for financing!

I would love for some of the loan pros to chime in and remind buyers to make like stone statues until their real estate purchase. . . .

Summer Solstice 2009

Welcome Summer!

Here in the Northern Hemisphere , at 1:45 A.M. EDT, Summer officially began.

The word 'Solstice' derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "Sun" and "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the Sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.

Today is the longest day of the year; tonight, the shortest night.

For centuries, civilizations have celebrated Summer's first day -- also known as the Summer Solstice, Midsummer (as in Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream!), St. John's Day (the 24th, the Feast of John The Baptist), or the Wiccan Festival of Litha, celebrated by wearing garlands or crowns of flowers including St. John's Wort (yes, that stuff they told us to take for stress a few years ago).

The Summer Solstice is a time to celebrate and let your childlike side have freer reign. The Summer cookouts and bonfires on the beach have their roots in this ancient series of celebrations.

It is a time to envision and imagine the success you will have by completing the work you started last Summer and at the beginning of the year.

But most of all, it is a time to put your face to the Sun and absorb some nice, warm, healthy and restorative Vitamin D!

And don't forget the sunscreen! :)

If You Can . . .

  • Start the day without caffeine
  • Always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains
  • Resist complaining and boring people with your troubles
  • Eat the same food every day and be grateful for it
  • Understand when loved ones are too busy to give you any time
  • Overlook when loved ones take it out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong
  • Take criticism and blame without resentment
  • Treat a rich friend the same as a poor friend
  • Face the world without lies and deceit
  • Conquer tension without medical help
  • Relax without liquor
  • Sleep without the aid of drugs
  • Honestly say that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion, gender preference or politics

Then you will have reached the same level of development as your dog . . .

The Slumdog In All Of Us

I am not a theatre goer; I know that the best seat in the house is the black leather couch in mine.

This past weekend we took in Slumdog Millionaire. I saw why it was so honored with the various awards it won.

I couldn't understand why I did not cry at some of the sad parts. (I cried watching Law and Order the other night where a perp broke a dog's ribs, so I am a crier) ;)

Until I realized that each of the life experiences, however horrible and unfair, were integral to Jamal winning it all at the end. (Sorry if I spoiled the ending)

Likewise, EACH of our life experiences

1. led us to where we are

2. were and are essential to what we now know and do so well

What were some life experiences that made/make you exceptional in your profession now?

A few of my own examples for starters:

Radio. To multitask like no one's business and recognize the value of time. The things a DJ can do between 3 minute songs! (Use your imagination). Continuity. Communication.

Counseling. I learned to not encourage dependency. Problem solving and listening skills. To ask the right questions and 'read' someone quickly, usually without them realizing it.

Teaching. A continual sharpening of skills in presentation as an 'expert' and exuding confidence, whether feeling it or not that day. Patience. Care. Service to others.

Writing: Rejection happens. So what! Make it look good. Don't overedit to obliteration. Let some of 'you' bleed thru. I can make my point in 10 lines--or fill in layers of detail. Good skills for contract writing!

Running. Gambling. Relationships. Sunbathing. Hell, what ISN'T a skills builder?

I think if each of us dug deeply to find the 'Slumdog' and those rich life experiences we possess, even the painful ones . . . we would see how truly blessed and powerful each of us are and infuse that power into our business quite advantageously.

It is written.
