The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo annual event will be held March 3rd - 22nd, 2008. Houston is home to the world's largest and richest rodeo. During February and March Houston is known as the cowboy capital of the world. It is nothing to be driving around any area of the greater Houston area and see the trail riders who have come from miles away, heading to Memorial Park where they camp out and ride in the Parade. This is a Rodeo and Livestock show like no other!
This is no ordinary Rodeo! For more than 75 years this event has been the heartbeat of the southwest. It takes over 19,000 volunteers who annually volunteer their time and talent for this livestock exhibition and premier entertainment event. Young children and teens work all year raising livestock which they hope will take a prize and possibly a scholarship. In the fall of 2007, there were 2022 students enrolled at 88 Texas colleges and universities from direct Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarships. These young men and women can attend any Texas college as long as you are working toward a bachelors degree.
Not only does the Rodeo have a tremendous impact on education and the youth of Texas, it also has an economic impact on the Houston area where more than 400,000 hotel nights are booked and more than 1.8 million meals are served to visitors and exhibitors to the show every year.
This years Entertainment lineup is as great as years past!

Country property in the Harris & Montgomery County, Texas areas.
There are some things to consider when purchasing rural property, such as whether you want to be in a restricted subdivision type or unrestricted property. We have many subdivisions that are restricted with acreages with 1-10 acres. Many times you can have horses (typically it is 1 horse per acre) but there are limits on the type of home you can build and many times the square footage.
The restricted subdivisions have some form of homeowners association to keep the properties about the same. Some believe this keeps the values up.
If you are considering unrestricted rural property, there generally is not a homeowners' association and you can have horses, cows, pigs or whatever on it. There is not a minimum square footage and any requirements on the type of dwelling. You may have a mansion and the guy down the road may have a one room log cabin or a manufactured home.
When considering bare acreage, keep in mind that there could be additional expenses if and when you build. There could be the expense of providing gas lines, electricity lines/poles, phone lines/poles, drilling a well, and a septic system.
Most rural property do not have public water or sewer. You will have to drill a well and put in a septic system if they are not already there. Many people today use the aerobic septic systems. Most counties in fact require the aerobic system.
Another thing to consider is the area you are looking at and see if it is in a 100 year flood plain. There are a few areas that are, and probably would never flood, but this is something to definitely check out because you would need flood insurance. Most mortgage companies would require it.
If I can be of any assistance or you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me or email me.

Monster Jam was at the Reliant Center last night (Feb. 2, 2008) and as always it was entertaining for everyone! There was much excitement when Spring, Texas' own Daron Basl w/El Matador was in the semi finals with Pablo w/Gravedigger. The hard charging Daron Basl was even with Gravedigger when after the final turn at the finish line, Daron flipped his truck ending up on it roof and ripping off the tire.
David Smith w/ King Krunch is also from Spring, Tx and did a fantastic job as well.
Maximum Distruction, driven by Tom Meetz went on to take the win over Gravedigger.
The freestyle was won by Pablo w/ Gravedigger, also from Spring, Texas. We were really proud of our hometown guys!
