On Sun Aug 24, the Marlborough Business Association will host a community wide event, Marlborough Day. The day will feature live entertainment, food, vendors, local businesses and much more. Activities begin at 11am at Blish Park and the event will be held rain or shine with activities taking place under the pavilion. Any civic, church or youth group is invited to particpate as a volunteer to fill the need of community service hours. There are many tasks to do, such as set up and break down, assisting the vendors, and general duties for the day. East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department Company No One will hold its 5th annual car show Sun Aug 10 from 9am-3pm at East Hampton Middle School, 19 Childs Rd, East Hampton, off Route 66. There will be vehicles of any make from 1920-2000, including emergency vehicles, military, cars, trucks, rods and mods and imports. 30 trophies will be awarded. Judging by People Choice. 1st 100 entries get dash plaque. Cost is $5 for the show for spectators and $5 per car. Vendors are welcome, cost is $10 for a 10'x20' space. Parks and Recreation will take a bus trip to the Pumpkin Festival Saturday, Oct 25 in Keene, NH. While in Keen, you will get to see over 16,000 hand carved and decorated creations and take in Main Street activities, all while listening to music played in the band shell. There will be lunch at Woodbound Inn in Rindge, NH. Lastly, at dusk, there will be a trip to see Grand Illumination. The bus will depart from Marlborough Town Hall at 9am and return at 9:30pm. Fee is $68. Registration deadline is Wed Sept 24. 1st come 1st serve.
The Colchester Dental Group will particpate in the 17th Annual Steeple Chase Bike Tour, Saturday Aug 16. The tour will consist of four routes, ranging in length from 20 to 11 miles, through northeastern CT's "quiet Corner". Funds are being raised for Interfaith Ministry and Perception Programs, two local nonprofit social service groups in the Windham area. You can help the Dental Group meet its goal by sponsoring Babinski and his staff. Donations are appreciated.
Dr. John Mormile, Chiropractic and Acupuncture, 234 Main St, Portland, CT, will have a Kids Appreciation Day, Wed Aug 13 from 9am-1pm and 3-6pm. The event is in celebration of the practice's seven years at it's Portland Location. Children can come for a spinal examination at no cost. There will also be free ice cream.
