Marlborough Parks & Recreation will hold "Mad Science Camp-3,2,1 Blast off!" Aug 4-8 from 9am-noon, in room 147 at Marlborough Elementary School, 25 School Dr, Marlborough, CT. The program is for kids age 7-12 and costs $145. Spend an entire week exploring rockets and the science behind space travel. Lean what it is like to live and work in space like a real astronaut. Investigate various types of rockets, and you can build your very own rocket. Also, get ready to launch a variety of rockets that can soar over 300 feet up. Children will become certified as Mad Science Rocketeers. You'll take home your own rocket and you can even add an (optional) complete rocket launching kit.
Mapleleaf Farm, 768 Gilead St,Hebron, CT, a working dairy farm, will offer free tours Sat Aug 2 from noon-4pm, as part of Gilead Neighborhood Day. Guided tours will take you behind the scenes of the day to day farm operations. Also, come meet the Farmers Cow, a group of local farmers who formed their own company to support locally produced goods and raise awareness of Open and Preservation. The Farmers Daughter Lemonade will be served at Alex's Lemonade Stand. While enjoying a glass of cold lemonade, come and fight childhood cancer on cup at a time by donating to this worthy cause. Alex's Lemonade Stand evolved from a young cancer patient's front yard stand to a nationwide front yard fundraiser movement for childhood cancer.
Indigo Lily Co. in Colchester, CT is hosting a summer long Traveling Artsts' Series. The Portland Senior Center Art Van is traveling to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston August 21. The highlight of the trip is the "Winslow Homer: American Scenes" exhibit, which offers an extraordinary glimpse of the artist's working methods in a variety of media. A Steak dinner served at the Marlborough Moose Lodge and Family Center put together by the Women of the Moose, will be held, Saturday, July 26 from 5-7pm at 303 South Main St, Marlborough, CT. The steak will be served with a potato, veggie, salad and dessert and you may also choose to have sauteed mushrooms and onions with your steak.
