It has been almost a week ago now that we were watching and worrying about our daughter, her husband and our 3 granchildren in Houston.
They were not in the mandatory evacuation area and stayed during Ikes appearance. The eye of the hurricane went right over them in the north east area.
A tramoline decided to fly into their tree from the neighbors yard, hitting the corner of the house on the way and both back side fences came down.
Their electricity came on the next day and they are still in a little island of area with power. It has been a blessing to have others coming over to get out of the heat and others staying with them instead of being displaced themselves. Having enough food they are doing fine and we could not ask for any better.
The Uintah Basin Applied Technology College and Utah State University are asking for artists and/ or artist teams interested in creating site specific artworks(s) for the new Uintah Basin Ap[plied Technology College UBSTC Utah State University USU building in Vernal Utah.
This might be a great opportunity for an artist to get their work displayed. This is the link for the information.

I am going on an adventure Saturday to an area near Delta, Utah to search for Trilibites fossils. There are several areas by Delta, Utah where they can be found. We are going with a group from the Rockpick legends Rock Shop in Salt Lake City.
The trip cost $50 each ( which is about the same as the other pay areas available) to search in rock that has been excavated freshly just for this group. It should be an amazing day of great finds.
I will post some photos of my finds and hopefully you can put this on your list of things to do when you come by this way.
My interest in Shell Art started on a trip years ago far away from Vernal, Utah. We spent one day on Sanibel Island, Florida where we found shells bountiful and colorful. Sanibel Island is named as the Best Shelling Location in the Northern Hemishere.
Visiting the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum on Sanibel Island where we found shell art I was determined to create my own Sailor's Valentines. I took many years deciding which box to start with. Since then I have created many and entered them in The Sanibel Island Shell Show.
Sailors were known to bring these home to their loved ones after a trip out to sea and most had an endearing message created with shells on the valentine. They are made in an octagon wooden box.with a glass front. The single valentine shown below was made for my husband's office and is more traditional with earthly colors.
