For the last 10 years my family has been travel ling to Destin,Florida for vacation. For the last 8 years we have been staying at the Pelican Beach Resort in Destin.

We absolutely love this resort and decided 8 years ago that one day we would purchase a condo at the Pelican. Well that day has arrived. We closed on the condo purchase about 10 days ago(unit 1004) and we immediately remodeled our 1 br 2 ba condo to our liking.

This condo is directly on the beach overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Unit 1004 sleeps 6 people(sleeper couch and hallway bunks). My family made a business trip/vacation to Destin,Florida lat week and we always visit this great small church there. On Sunday morning the preacher announced that we would have evening services on the beach at Beasley Park in Ft. Walton.

We were also asked to bring a picnic supper. We met more of the people at the church and enjoyed the fellowship. After eating under the pavilion, we all moved to the beach for the singing and lesson.

After singing several contemporary worship songs, Brad the preacher spoke a few minutes. He informed us that we were sitting on the only beach in the area that used to be a "black only" beach. He said that with tears in his eyes and said he regrets where this nation once was in regards to integration.

Today I went to show a Fannie Mae foreclosure but the listing agent told me he has a contract as of last night. I then asked him about another Fannie Mae foreclosure and he told me that one also has a contract above the list price.

My client was wanting to make an offer on the house this morning and before we found out the deal was done they asked me how much to offer. I told them that they need to offer about $5000 over the list price.But, we were too little too late.

We are still seeing many Dyersburg foreclosures but the sales prices on the lower priced ones are starting to creep up and the higher priced ones(for the most part) have already gone up.

So folks, no more low ball offers for Dyersburg foreclosures. Our economy is recovering and home prices stabilizing.

There still some deals out there but you just have to be the first one there. Call me or my staff to get there first for Dyersburg foreclosures or Dyersburg real estate.

The economy here in Dyersburg has been very slow for the last few months but appears to be waking up.

Many of the plants have survived by lay-offs but now some of those have started calling back laid off workers.

Onw of my renters at Twin Oaks apartments is a "big cheeze" at a plant across the river in Hickman,Arkansas and he just told me his plant is now hiring. He works for Kender Morgan which is a company that is contracted to load barges on the Mississippi river for Nucore Steel. He did tell me they are hiring through a temporary agency in Blytheville,Arkansas called Dawson Temporary Services. Sorry I do not have their number.

Nucore Steel is doing much better but not sure about them hiring right now. Another plant close to Nucore Steel that has been hiring is Roll Coater. They take roll sheets of steel from Nucore and apply a paint covering on one side. I have talked to some who have just gotten hired at that plant.

I have also been seeing want ads in the local paper for jobs in the Jimmy Dean plant in Newbern.

Another plant here in Dyersburg that has been increasing production in last few weeks is the Quebecor World Color Plant. I have renters working there.

I have yet another renter(another big cheeze) working at the Eaton Plant in Newbern. He just told me they are getting ready to call back quite a few laid off workers as their business is definitely picking back up.

Jobs Update: I closed the sale on a house today and the buyer told me Briggs & Stratton were going to start up hiring again in short order. Briggs in located in Newbern,Tennessee on Highway 77.

Jobs update 10/29/09: Tenaris(steel tubing and pipe) in Armorel,Arkansas(near Nucore Steel and Blytheville,Ark) is now hiring according to someone there at the plant. I also understand another plant close by to Tenaris and Nucore is also hiring. That plant is called IPSCO(make round steel tubing).

Just found this picture at home from long ago so thought I would share it with my friends.

The lake we were fishing in is now part of "the Farms golf and country club" which is a very nice area of Dyersburg,Tn to live in and really the only place we still have new construction in this down economy. Those houses average $200,000 and up. I just closed one yesterday for $214,000.
