The winter is a quieter time at Smith Mountain Lake. If you've seen the movie What About Bob?, you've already been introduced to a lake in Central Virginia and know how beautiful it is. We don't see as many boaters or visitors to the state park this time of year and some businesses do close down.
One business that is open year round is Hickory Hill Winery. Located in the town of Moneta (in Bedford County), Hickory Hill Winery produces a variety of wines and they will be holding a special event February 16-17 their Winter Whites Open House - 11:00am to 5:00pm. All white wines will be on sale, coffee and hot chocolate will be available to warm you up on the inside. Or you can brave the chill outside and see what grapevine pruning is all about. If you'll be in the area, stop by.

This is a HIT! If you're looking for late night dancing fun in Lynchburg then you need to check out Salsa Nights at Machu Picchu Peruvian Restaurant. No experience required, just bring your enthusiasm.
Only $3 -a partner is not required. For more information, Salsa Nights has created a Facebook page to notify members about upcoming events. The group is open to everyone. Even if you've never taken a dance lesson before, you'll learn, have fun and meet some great people at the same time. Machu Picchu is located next to The Starlight Cafe.

This is a perfect dip for Superbowl Sunday! I've been making this recipe for 15 years and it's always the one people request I bring to a party.
Mix the first four ingredients thoroughly to remove lumps, add in Taco Seasoning. Spice it up to your own taste with Hot Sauce and Hot Pepper Flakes. Spread the mixture into a clear glass dish or decorative bowl. Top with shredded cheese, then top with shredded lettuce. Add olives, tomatoes and peppers. Cover and refrigerate until party time. Serve with Nacho Chips.
SPICY TACO DIP
2 8 ounce packages Cream Cheese, softened
1 24 ounce container of Sour Cream
1 Small Onion, chopped
1 tsp chopped Garlic
1 1/2 - 2 1.25 oz packages of Taco Seasoning (season to your taste)
Hot Pepper flakes
Hot Sauce
1-2 cup shredded Fiesta Blend Cheese
Shredded Lettuce
Sliced Black Olives
Chopped Tomatoes
Jalapeno peppers
Nacho Chips
