toronto-city-logoA quick re-posting from casaGURU.com for all homeowners and house professionals that live in the city of Toronto.

It's an important read if you are planning any home improvement or renovation projects that involve contractors.

The city has just launched a new enforcement program called "Project Fix It 2009" that will be checking that contractors and trades on any Toronto city renovation site are properly licensed by the city.

Failure to have the proper city licensing can result in charges, according to the city website. Inspectors will be making surprise inspections at renovation sites or based upon a report of illegal activity on a job site.

The city is encouraging homeowners to take steps to protect themselves from hiring unlicensed contractors by asking for proof of Toronto City licensing when seeking bids.

To verify the license number a homeowner can call the City Licensing Service at 416-392-7600.
