The First Sounds of Spring

I have a morning routine. I wake my daughter up for school at precisely 615am and as she get ready, I read a daily devotional and a little bit of the Word.

I sit in a comfortable chair surrounded by windows, turn on the lamp, adjust a pillow and absorb the morning.

Today, for the first time in months, I heard the chirping of birds outside the window. It truly warmed me. Unfortunately, I believe I can see some frost on the grass.... but at least I can see grass!

I anxiously await many more signs of spring!

Post St. Patrick's Day (How are YOU doing?)

I must say that it was nice to gather with some old friends at Derry Hegarty's in Milwaukee yesterday for awhile. And for those of you reading this, I am glad you survived the night and hope it was safe for all.

Those of us who are never "off the clock" can understand why these weekday holiday's must be taken in moderation. I was home just after 8:00pm and started right in on returning some phone calls and emails.

We still have mild temperatures in Milwaukee after a record setting 73 degrees and it just feels like a great day to work.

Best of luck to all of you today!!!

Risk Rejection, Reap Rewards!

I had a good message re-affirmed by my brother last week. He wasn't speaking about real estate, but did it ever ring true.

My brother, Jay Cavaiani, founder of the www.campusway.org was invited to speak at Bread of Life Church and give the homily. This church has a loyal, but small congregation. So when 30 additional people showed up, it was very noticeable.

Near the end of his message, he talked about how when you put God or Jesus out in front of you for everyone to see, be prepared to be rejected. He went on to say how wonderful it was to have so many people in church today and felt honored that people actually came to listen. But then he informed everyone that he invited through facebook, email and phone calls....... over 200 people. "So I had to be rejected over 170 times to get 30 people to show up."

Boy did that ever strike home in regards to prospecting in real estate! How many rejections are you willing to face today? Or should that question be spun around? How many people will say yes?

Commentary on Current Rates and Mortgage Market

Interest rates have moved slightly lower yesterday. The 30 year fixed rate is now at 5.125% for loans from $200,000 to $427,000 with a 740 credit score and a down payment of 10%. See the attached Mortgage Plans and Rates for more details.

Commentary:

The mortgage market is struggling with President Obama's $275 billion Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan aimed at making refinancing easier for a select group of American homeowners. Here is a synopsis of the Homeowners rescue concept:

The plan has 3 components.

The first would help homeowners who are still current on their payment, but who are paying high interest rates and can not refinance because they do not have enough equity in their homes, a problem affecting growing numbers of people as housing values tumble.

A second component would assist about four million people who are at risk of losing their homes. It would provide incentives to lenders who alter the terms of loans to make them affordable for the troubled borrowers.

A third component would try to increase the credit available for mortgages in general by giving $200 billion of additional financial backing to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Campus Ministry Staff Inquiry/Application

Thank you for your potential interest in part time staff positions with the Campus Way. The following information is being provided to give you a better feel for the position. Below is also an application form. If you're interested in a position please fill out that application. We will then contact you to discuss the position further. If you would like to start by calling us you may do that as well. Jay Cavaiani is the director and can be reached at 262-431-4708 or jay@campusway.org. Please check out our website to take a look at our mission and strategy for the Campus Way.

What is the goal? The goal of a Campus Way staff person is to build and disciple a student leadership team on a high school or middle school campus. Although it is a goal of the Campus Way to reach as many kids as possible on campus with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the goal of the staff is to develop the student leaders to become better followers and disciple makers on Campus now, while in the process develop Christian disciple makers for a lifetime.

How do you build the student leadership team? Although not absolutely essential that the staff person have a connection to the campus, it is very helpful if the staff person works on campus, lives in the community, or has a connection to kids through a church to begin building a team. It is part of the staff person's job to network with students and adults in the community and in the school in order to develop a student leadership team. In some schools, the current staff may have some connections to help get that process started.

What do you do with the leadership team? Typically you will meet with your leadership team every week or every other week to have fun, study God's word together, grow in your devotion to Jesus and His mission, and plan your campus meeting. The Campus Way will provide training and ongoing mentoring to you to help you in discipling your team.

How do we reach the campus? Through your student leadership team you will plan, promote, network and implement a before or after school meeting where you will have a fun activity, and then either open God's word together, bring in a speaker, have a student testimony, watch a Christian video, or enjoy small group biblical interaction, and then perhaps enjoy some food together.

Is this legal on a public Campus? Due to the equal access law, religious campus clubs are allowed on nearly all campuses. Student leadership for campus clubs that meet on campus is required. This fits the model of the Campus Way very well since our goal is to develop and disciple Christian student leaders. Typically leadership meetings are held off campus where school rules would not apply. The general campus meetings can be help on campus or off campus.

How many hours a week would I work? A typical position would be about 6 hours per week. This would allow for a leadership meeting, campus meeting, preparation and prayer, as well as have some time left over for a monthly meeting with the director and other staff for fellowship, encouragement, and training. With that being said, each campus and position may be different and be customized to each particular staff and campus. Additional things a staff person may do are show up at a student's practice or game, or find another opportunity to just let your kids know you care for and are thinking about them.

What is the rate of pay? Campus way staff are paid anywhere from $10 to $20 per hour depending on many variables including experience, skill, faithfulness, and the networking of the ministry.

Is experience required? Experience in past youth ministry as a volunteer or paid position is encouraged but not mandatory. The Campus Way will provide both training and ongoing mentoring of Campus Way staff. Experience in leadership and/or bible study leadership is also encouraged.

What about fundraising? There is a fundraising component to a Campus Way position. We have and continue to make great strides to make fundraising as easy as possible. The Campus Way has several events throughout the year that help our minstry to raise the money necessary to continue to impact the lives of youth. Examples are a fall dinner, sportsman's hunt, golf outing and our main staff and student funraising event, Miles for His MIssion. This is a walk/bike/run event very similar to a cancer walk type fundraiser. The Campus Way is run through Great Mission Ministries which is a 501c3. All donations are tax deductible. We would not want to lose any gifted, faithful campus staff person due to fundraising concerns. Please call for more information or questions on this.

Would I work during school breaks? School breaks would be off times for the ministry, however there may be a weekend retreat that could take place, during a break, perhaps once per year.

What about the summer? The summer would in large part be off time. Your attendance at a 3-4 day summer camp with your students would be required. My guess is that this is something, after you've experienced it, you would not want to miss. Additionally, you will want to schedule some outings for your leaders over the summer and begin to meet with them weekly beginning in August to prepare for the upcoming year. It is important to maintain contact with your student leaders. Each staff person's summer situation may be set up differently depending upon the staff person's schedule.

Where is the headquarters for the Campus Way and Great Mission Ministries? The headquarters for the ministry is an office space of Bread of Life Church, Dousman, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, 53118. Bread of Life has graciously offered us full use of their facilities when available!

Where is the Campus Way looking to expand? We would like to branch out from our office location. However, where God raises up staff will have a large bearing on where we grow.

What are the other requirements or responsibilities? Probably the most important thing for a good Campus Way Staff is to have a solid walk with Jesus. A great indication of that is to be connected to a local church, your bible, a small group, and with God and His Holy Spirit in prayer.

What do I do if I am interested? Fill out the following inquiry/application form. We will then respond to you to set up a meeting to get to know one another and discuss things further.
