Lexington, VA was founded in 1777, we are the second oldest Lexington in the nation, having been named after Lexington Mass. Where the first battle of the American Revolution began. Rich in history & tradition, The local walking tour of Lexington offers the visitor a small glimpse of what locals and the newly relocated have discovered for themselves. There is much to see and do.

Stonewall Jackson HouseThe Stonewalls Jackson House, was the only home that General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson ever owned. Built in 1800. Jackson and his second wife Mary Anna lived in the house from 1859 till 1861 when he departed for the civil war. The home was owned by the family until 1906 when the Daughters of the Confederacy purchased it. It was used as Stonewall Jackson hospital for 47 years until 1954 when it was purchased and opened as a museum to honor Jackson.

R.E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church: Built in 1883, General Robert E. Lee was a senior warden at Grace Episcopal church and just a few days prior to his death in 1870 approved the plans for this new church.

Lee HouseThe Lee House : Built in 1869, for Robert E Lee while he served as president of Washington College. Lee actually had the home built with a large porch and low windows, for his wife who was confined to a wheelchair. At the side of the house there is a garage that once was the stable for Lee's famous horse Traveller. The home has served as the official place of residence for all presidents of W&L.

Lee-Jackson HouseThe Lee-Jackson House: Built in 1842 was built for college president Henry Rufner. It is called the Lee-Jackson House because Stonewall married then president George Junkins daughter Elinor (first wife) and they lived there for a brief period of time. Then in 1865 when Lee became president he and his family lived there till the Lee house was built..

The Collonade

The Colonnade & Washington Hall: the campus is one of the most beautiful and recognized in the world. It dates back to the early 1820's.

Lee ChapelLee Chapel: Built in 1867 at the request of Robert E. Lee. Plays a very important part in campus life today. You can view The Recumbent Lee statue by Edward Valentine upstairs and downstairs you will find the crypt where Lee & family are buried, his office, art Gallery and museum. VMI Barracks

VMI: Virginia Military Institute was founded in 1839, originally an arsenal. It is the nation's Cadet Batteryoldest state run military college.

George C Marshall Museum George C. Marshall Museum: Marshall was a 1901 graduate of VMI and famous for the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Foundation was founded in 1953 and the building was dedicated in 1964 by Presidents Johnson and Eisenhower.Marshall Statue

Jackson Statue General Thomas J. "Stonewall Jackson was laid to rest with his family in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetary.The statue that is dedicated to him has him facing his beloved south.
