Keeping up the exterior of your home for curb appeal and protection

Recently my wife and I took on the task of getting our home up to snuff before it gets too cold. We decided to paint our home...it's been five years since the last time it was painted. Upon getting into the project we discovered that the windows needed re glazing, which we plan on getting new anyway in the next couple of years. After re glazing the windows, caulking around the windows and doors and replacing some rotted window sills It made me think about these basic maintenance issues and why they should concern you.

  1. Your home is suseptable to the harsh weather conditions (In the Kansas City area our weather isn't that friendly...we go from 10 below zero to 110). This will lead to rotted wood. This can be prevented by keeping your home properly sealed and painted.
  2. Heating and Cooling. If you keep your home properly sealed off with both caulk and making sure your windows (if you have old one) are glazed you will cut down on your heating and cooling cost.
  3. By keeping a fresh coat of paint on your house you will help with your curb appeal and value of your home.
  4. If you keep the outside of your home looking good your neighbors will follow suit and do the same...thus increasing the value and appeal of your neighborhood.
