We received the letter, and we have been well aware of the "deterioration of Samrick Avenue", but the big signs at the both ends of Samrick are a little less than comforting. Sometimes you never can appreciate a bad road until it is closed!
I am glad to know that the Kent County Road Commission has been planning on a replacement for Samrick Avenue, and is saving us the thousands of dollars that it would have cost to do both of these at different times. I Thank you now before my journey home becomes a true mess of equipment, those @#$! orange barrels and joyful sounds of workers (which I know would rather be doing something other than working in the hot summer with tar and dirt and sewer connections).
Ok, I am not sure how I really feel about this. I am not living right on Samrick and will not be having my mail box, shrub, yard or tree disturbed. (Please feel free to vent here on this blog, I will listen and comment so you won't feel you are alone) I am a lucky one who has the both sewer and water. I have dealt with the West River road and barrels for as long as the rest of us that travel too and from Plainfield to Alpine and use that stretch of road. I have nothing to be upset about other than a little inconvenience when getting to my home right?
Well, I am going to make this an ongoing blog about this event. I will be counting down from day one to
November 1, 2008 (according to the letter that will be the completion date)

Belmont Elementary School is having Carnival 2008, Friday, February 29th, at 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This PTA sponsored event is a great way to share in some quality time with your family and friends.
This Year's Carnival will host a Mini - Raffle, with proceeds to be evenly divided amount the Belmont teaching staff. The teachers will use this money to buy instructional aids for our students.
What is a mini - raffle?
A mini raffle is a selection of various prizes available to win by purchasing an individual ticket and placing that ticket in a container specifically for the prize you wish to win. At the end of the evening, a winning ticket will be drawn for each prize. Tickets will cost $1.00 and will be sold the evening of the Carnival. However, you need not be present to win.
How can I help?
As in the previous years, the PTA is seeking the generosity of Belmont parents and business to assist in the success of this event. We are asking parents, business owners, and the Belmont community to consider donating a prize to this year's mini - raffle.
Do you have something you'd like to donate to the Mini-Raffle? Here are some donation ideas:
Use your imagination! We only ask that you donate new items. If you would prefer to make a cash donation, prizes will be purchased by the PTA on your behalf.
All donations will receive visual recognition for the donor. Anonymous prizes are welcome as well. Belmont PTA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization meaning prizes donated with a declared value will be given a tax donation receipt. Please be sure to include the attacked "In-Kind Donation Form" with your item. Additional forms will be available in the office.
Deadline for donations is February 28th, 2008.They can be dropped off at the school office or arrangements can be made for pick-up. We are very excited about this year's Carnival and we sincerely appreciate your support of this mini-raffle. Please help make the mini-raffle a success.
