Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth: Birmingham's Loss of an Original Foot Soldier
Rev Fred Shuttlesworth, a name many may not recognize as an integral part of the Civil Rights Movement, died on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. When we speak of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King comes prominently to mind. But what a lot of people don't know is that had it not been for Rev. Shuttlesworth, we would probably know little about King. You see, it's long been said that Rev. Shuttlesworth called upon King to lead the Civil Rights Movement.
Reverend Shuttlesworth was 89 years old and had suffering from ill health for the past several years. We wish his family well and express our deepest sympathy for the loss of the man and the legend.

Want to Buy New Construction in Birmingham, But Can't Afford It?
Sometimes buyers avoid looking at new construction homes because they believe that they can't afford them and in some cases that's true. There are usually 2 schools of thought when buyers are seeking new construction:
Well for buyers that truly cannot afford "new" I've got at least 2 solutions for you (one on the Eastside of Birmingham and one on the Westside of Birmingham).
This weekend I viewed 2 of the best investor rehabbed properties that I've seen in quite sometime. Of course, I am speaking from a visually appealing standpoint and quality workmanship as far as the eye can see. But it was apparent that great thought and care went in to these fully rehabilitated and rehabbed homes.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST
The one on the west side of town is a full brick beauty with a full finished basement and a garage. Naturally it has 3 bedrooms, and NOT 2, but THREE FULL BATHS including a full bathroom downstairs. The neighborhood is well kept and pride of ownership is still evident throughout. It has a level, fenced backyard and a carport in addition to the garage.
LIVING LIKE NEW MONEY IN THE EAST
The other home is located on Birmingham's east side and it is a 2 story home with the master bedroom and bath on the first level and 2 bedrooms and a shared bath upstairs. I am not usually a fan of dark wood cabinetry particularly in the kitchen, but these cabinets were beautiful and the hardware really set off the stainless steel like appliances.
One of the qualities that I liked about both homes is that they weren't signature Home Depot templates. You know what I mean: the same Home Depot staple .99 ceramic tile, the same lowest priced light fixtures, the same carpet, the same tile in the kitchen and bath.
Nope, these were really standout rehabbed and remodeled properties with unique features, hardward and fixtures.
Sound like anything you're looking for and priced under $140,000? Give me a call at 205-321-1200 or email Charita Cadenhead and let's sit down and talk. I'm on a missed to seek out the highest quality rehab projects in Birmingham for the buyers that want knew without the new home prices. Search the MLS on the Bham WIiRE website.

Market Reports: Completed New Construction in Birmingham, AL
For anyone looking for fabulous deals on new construction in the Jefferson County area of Birmingham, you may want to give me a call quick. Some of the best deals on new construction can be found in houses that have languished on the market until the project is complete or nearly complete.
As of today, September 22, 2011, there are 16 New Construction (Completed) that have been on the market for over 1000 days (going back to 2007). My best guess is that the developers want these homes sold in a hurry in order to bring closure to one development while they are making plans for another.
Take a look at these market statistics for Complete New Construction homes that are showing active in the MLS for over 1000 days.
When you're done, you can reach me at 205-321-1200. I'm available.
