Dover New Hampshire road race; Red's 5 mile Road Race for a better community

Reds Race is a 5 mile road race and 3 mile walking course, open to anyone interested in either running or walking in this annual event. "Reds Race" was born out of the generosity of Red's Shoe Barn which introduced this race as the Red's Shoe Barn 5 Mile race 28 years ago. Three years ago, Red's Shoe Barn turned the planning and execution of this race to five Strafford County non-profit organizations to transform this race into a fundraiser, benefiting the five non-profit organizations, with the intent to strengthen this community.

Why I love Dover New Hampshire; Reason #20, Woodman Institute Museum

Woodman institute

Located at 182 Central Ave., Dover New Hampshire, the Woodman institute studies and lectures on local area history. Here you can find who built New Hampshire, marvel at New Hampshire history, and experience the finest display of natural history and geology in the New Hampshire area.

Originally built in 1818, the three story brick home was the residence of Annie and Charles Woodman. Together they shared the home with lawyer, Daniel Christie. When Annie Woodman passed in 1915, she left a trust of $100,000 to create a Dover institution.

Today, the Woodman Institute Museum highlights artifact, minerals, fire and police memorabilia, musical instruments, and china and pottery throughout five different locations. The Woodman home displays rocks, minerals, fossils and Indian artifact. The Hale house displays the fire and police memorabilia antique dolls, china and pottery. The Keefe house, which was recently acquired will display over 7000 genealogical and historical documents. The 1675 Damn Garrison displays period furniture, cooking utensils and crockery. Lastly, the newest project is known as the Garden project. This project will allow for outdoor projects in the future.

Woodman institute

The institute is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 12:30 to 4:30, except holidays. The museum is closed Dec. 1st through March 31st. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for students and seniors age 65 and over. Children 14-16 are $2.00 and kids 13 and under are free.

Hey HGTV, where's my chance to shine in the spotlight?

my first place

Hey HGTV,

This is my open letter to you. I want to know where and how I can be a Realtor participating on your show. Your show, "My first place" seems like a perfect fit for my clients and I.

I watch the show often and love to see the joy and excitement on the first time home buyers faces throughout the process. I see Agents and their clients from all over the country, but I don't think I've ever seen any buyers or agents in New Hampshire. Now is your chance to highlight one.

My clients, Mark and Phoebe are of course first time buyers. They are in their mid twenties and are so excited to buy a home. I have started the process by sitting down with them and completing a first time buyer interview. We have discussed what they are looking for, and where they want to live. They have since been pre-qualified for a loan and emailed me the pre-qual letter. Now, we just need to start the process.

I think Mark and phoebe would be a great fit for the show because of the excitement they show for the home buying process. They are recently married and renting a home in Dover New Hampshire. Mark recently moved to the United States after the wedding. They are both hard working young professionals and deserve this opportunity.

As for me, I am a full-time, energetic Realtor, with a wealth of expertise to share with my clients. I am a member of The National Association Of Realtors and my local board is The Strafford County Board of Realtors. My office is located in Dover NH. I am an E-pro® and have recently received my ABR® designation! The Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR®) designation is designed for real estate buyer agents who focus on working directly with buyer-clients. My coverage areas are most of southern New Hampshire, including, but not limited to, Strafford and Rockingham Counties and surrounding areas. My southern Mainecoverage area consists of, but is not limited to, Berwick, South Berwick, North Berwick, Wells, Sanford, Eliot, Kittery, York, and surrounding areas. Wentworth Greenhouses, Rollinsford New Hampshire, now hosting farmers market on Tuesdays

Wentworth greenhouse

Wentworth Greenhouses, located in Rollinsford New Hampshire has been a family favorite for a few years now. For the past three years, my wife, son, and I travel to the greenhouse and pick several flowers to plant in our front yard. The best part of this tradition has been the day we choose to do this. Instead of going for brunch or dinner like most families, my family chooses to do this on Mothers day. Every May I get to see my wife's eyes light up with enjoyment seeing the wonderful array of flowers and plants to choose from.

Farmers market

This year, Wentworth's has just made me fall in love with them even more. Wentworth Greenhouses recently announced the opening of a Summer Farmers' Market, featuring locally produced vegetables, food products, and select crafts, slated for Tuesdays beginning June 27 through the last week of October.

Tuesday Farmers' Markets will be held from 2-6 p.m. in the Wentworth Greenhouses parking lot at 141 Rollins Road, Rollinsford. Farmers or food producers interested in participating should contact Steve Kokolis, Market Manager, at (603) 743-0923 as soon as possible for an application and guidelines.

A great convenience for me, Wentworth's is on my ride home from the office everyday! I'm tempted to stop almost everyday. They have been gearing up for the busy Spring season in New England and have had many new varieties of plants and shrubs outdoors on a daily basis. The Farmers Market will be a tough one to pass by. I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from visiting every Tuesday.

Hope to see you out there!

Another great hockey player has left New Hampshire; Jamie Fritsch made his pro debut.

Jamie Fritsch

Another great hockey player has left the ranks of The University of New Hampshireto make his pro debut. Jamie Fritsch, a senior defense-man for the Wildcat's signed a pro contract over the weekend and made his pro debut for the Philadelphia Flyers, playing in his first NHL game against the Rangers of New York.

Fritsch is the second player ina two weeks to sign a pro contract. First was sophomore forward, James Van Riemsdyk. Both players were outstanding in the their careers for the University of New Hampshire and their talents will be missed next year in Durham.

I've said it before, and will continue to emphasize why I love living where I do. The close proximity to the University of New Hampshire from Dover, Somersworth, and the remainder of the Seacoastallows me to make the quick 15 minute drive to Durham to watch these fantastic young athletes grow and become better hockey players and young men. The system set up for then to exceed is wonderful and one that I would recommend to any young hockey player with dreams of playing Division 1 hockey.

The University of New Hampshire participates in Division 1 hockey in the Hockey East conference. This conference, now in it's 25th year has produced some of the best hockey players we see skating for the NHL now. Again, just another great reason to Live in New Hampshire!
