Take a little walk with me, following the path the hubs and I took last Thursday. See how there is a little bit of color left in the second picture? The plant right next to it has started the change, red leaves and stems...
All of the wildflowers were hanging on to their last bit of color, their petals shriveling, turning brown and curling under....the sunbeam shown perfectly on the far right middle shot, enhancing the difference between the beginning to change, and not quite ready to change leaves on the fallen branch.
Most telling was the Virginia Creeper, the one in my yard started to change almost 2 weeks ago, this one appears to have just started! The cottonwood on the trail is catching up to my neighbors tree, in offering up some gold, and, yes, it looks like Fall is here...
"Peak weekend" for aspen color in the mountains is usually around the second week of September, (I know this because I lived in the high country for many years, and it always "falls" on or near mine and the hubs birthdays!) If you are planning a trip to the mountains to see the color, watch the news, they always keep track, but keep that time frame open, as once it peaks, it's over...

I visited the last of the in-town custom builds on the 2009 Colorado Springs Parade of Homes tour, last Sunday, so I was ready to blog about something new. But Saturday, I wanted to take a little drive into the mountains, and there was one home on the tour out of town, in Cripple Creek. I convinced the hubs it would be worth it, to take a drive, check out the house and enjoy the day. The directions to this home included, turn in"front of the big red barn", road is somewhat hidden, "so look for sign", go 9+ miles "past the llama farm" and the "Evergreen gas station". Take the road to the "green gate". Were all of the twists and turns worth the trip? YOU BET they were! (The directions are EXCELLENT, but you must follow exactly!)

I decided to make a special edition post so that ANYONE in the Colorado Springs area, that has not been on the tour, or seen this house, will have one last chance to visit! SUNDAY at 7:00 p. m. the tour is over!
If you have followed this blog at all, you have seen some beautiful custom built homes, but this one is definitely my fave! It is a custom built second home for the lucky owners, sitting on a spot with incredible views, and incorporating new and old for a fresh, yet familiar feel.
The builder described, "fresh interpretation of the mountain cabin" reminds visitors of a collection of outbuildings in a traditional Western town, barn, silo, bunkhouse, maybe even a touch of mining history. But once you enter, there is no doubt this is a 21st century home! The combinations of textures, colors, materials old, new, reclaimed, repurposed, traditional and modern is so perfectly blended the experience is seamless!
1. Great room, with "indoor campfire", 2. dining area, 3. kitchen, at far end of great room, 4. master bedroom wing
5. master bath, 6. entrance to the bunkhouse, 7. views from the deck, 8. study/office

Above, are the main areas of the home, but there are so many special things going on in EVERY ROOM, that the collage below is a selection of SOME of the features that caught my eye!
The attention to detail is evident in the choices of flooring, wall and ceiling treatments, doors, lighting...the list goes on. I came away inspired, planning to add quite a few things to the "idea file"!

1. Shelving in office 2. master bath back to back vanity 3. dining area lighting 4. barnboard siding in mud room
5. "drive-in" mural in home theater 6. light fixture in office 7. bamboo flooring, plexi panels with bamboo circles embedded 8. corrugated metal ceiling in the bunkhouse
9. log circles mounted to master bedroom wall 10. grass sandwiched between frosted glass panels in doors 11. mirror mosaic, plexi chandelier, deep molding 12. sink in bunkhouse bathroom
If you have not been on the tour, do not miss this last opportunity to visit this and the other properties!

This is it...the last weekend of the 2009 Colorado Springs Parade of Homes tour, and last Saturday, the hubs and I chose to only pop in on one property. The address intrigued me, the architectural rendering and name, Mountain Elegance given by the builder/owner/tour guidebook made me want to visit...
now, you will want to see it for yourself!

This home has been purchased and decorated by the owners, and they graciously allowed the tour, for the builder to showcase their work.
The extraordinary details in this almost 10,500 sq. ft. home are evident in every room, starting at the entry. There is the feeling you have entered the grand hall of a hunting lodge when greeted by the "trophy mountain" as it is described. This is not the full collection of animals on display, they are tucked in nooks, and displayed in settings in several spots of the home. In the bottom left, there is a small pond, with a raccoon "fishing".
The very specific animal theme is carried out in most every room, from mosaic tile sea life on the bottom of the pool to the bear paw prints leading to the master bathtub! The top middle photo is an exception, this is the pantry, which was as beautiful as a kitchen!

A few unexpected touches that I have chosen to feature, are the muraled ceiling in the dining room, a softer, more feminine touch than seen elsewhere, the secret staircase behind the sliding bookcase, ( the staircase leads to a private office of over 300 sq. ft. and is completely hidden with the bookcase closed!) and the camouflage carpet in a room with a hammock...for dreaming of the next hunting trip?
There are so many things to see, I just wanted to "tempt" my Colorado Springs readers to get out, and tour some Parade homes this weekend, because this is it! 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through August 23rd.
Over the past 2 weeks, I have featured something from almost all of custom homes that allowed photos, on the tour. There are 29 homes total, (1 in Cripple Creek!) and 10 of them are custom build, the remainder are models.

NEXT Week, Back on schedule with Motivated Monday, Double Dip Tips on Tuesday....
It's been a busy week, without much blogging, but I wanted to keep the enthusiasm going for the 2009 Colorado Springs Parade of Homes, by sharing a few more collages of some special features that I have seen on the tour:
