Motivated Monday: Take a Trip to the Paint Mines for Color Inspiration!

Motivated Monday: Posts will include ideas for motivated homesellers, on what they can do to help their Realtor get their home sold quickly and for top dollar. Occasionally it will include a motivational moment of the other variety as well!

On Sunday the hubs and I took a trip out to the Paint Mines near Calhan, Colorado. Not too long back, Debi Boucher posted about them and her slideshow is spectacular! (View it full screen with speakers on!). I made a mental note that we should plan a trip out there. Tuesday evening I was at a womens networking group, and another person mentioned them, and that was all I needed! I was in serious need of some "nature time" after a couple of really busy weeks...

So we drove out, expecting to be impressed by the colors of the rocks, which we definitely were. When I first heard about the "Mines" I thought there would be a mineshaft or two, (it IS Colorado!), but then I realized that it was a different use of the word.

With that in mind, I chose to use the word "Paint" differently as well, for my post. Clearly the Native Americans who travelled to this area of the state, came for the beautiful colors of the earth they found. They used the mineral rich earth to make ceremonial paint and to color their pottery.

I was struck by the colors of the wildflowers everywhere we looked! it is still early in the season, but many were in full bloom. When designers talk about painting with the colors of nature, exactly what colors are they talking about? The brightly colored wildflowers, or the neutral, sometimes muted colors of the earth?

When offering staging advice, we often suggest the "earthy" neutrals, but in a redesign, it is simply a matter of taste! If your personal favorite is blue, or green or red or yellow, go for it! Look to nature to see how all colors go together, it is about the tint, the shade, the value, the hue. Choosing to paint with the colors of nature could be easy as a walk in the park!
