Residents in downtown Chicago are served by several community organizations. Monthly or bi-monthly meetings provide an opportunity for residents to hear about and voice their concerns about development, zoning, traffic and new businesses in the area. Small business owners attend and introduce themselves and their businesses to potential customers. The Alderman of the community will often be in attendance to meet with and hear from constituents. During the warmer months, community organizations sponsor a variety of festivals, concerts, dinners and art fairs. These events require a lot of effort, so volunteers are always welcome. It's a great way to serve the community while making new friends.
If you would like to become more involved in your community and connect with your neighbors, get involved in your local community organization. You can visit the following sites to find out about the communities they serve and to sign-up for their e-newsletters.
