I imagine you heard the news: In 2006, about 300 astronomers voted to change about 300 million textbooks, and remove Pluto from planethood.

I am a lot of things, but "astronomer" isn't one of them. Therefore, I'm not in a position to judge the science behind that decision.

I AM a real estate guy, and I see parallels between Pluto and what happens in the housing markets. (OK, sorry, I just think about real estate all the time!)

I'm sitting on my couch, eating a chicken wing, and Pluto is suddenly wiped off the face of the solar system by a few astronomical convention goers who probably had too much to drink the night before.

I'm in my hammock on vacation, listening to the radio, and some economists--once again--declare that real estate is a bad investment and we're all now in a slump.

At least the astronomers are talking about ONE single object, and even then, they all can't agree on whether Pluto is a planet or not.

But these economists and journalists, who need their fix of being in the headlines, are much more daring: There are 19,429 municipal governments in the US, and these bozos think they're all moving in the same direction!

Think what you will about Pluto, but ignore the hogwash about real estate investing being "dead". We're only getting to the good part, where the dabblers and wannabes move on to other activities, leaving less competition for the rest of us.

Sure you should invest carefully. Sure there are markets on the downturn. But if you know where to look, and how to invest, you can find solid opportunities right in your own backyard.

One of my very favorite (and very profitable) hobbies is real estate market cycles.

P.S. You know what? I'm going to keep considering Pluto a planet. And I'm going to keep making a great deal of money for myself and my students, by knowing where to invest right now. If you like heavenly profits, I suggest you stick with me!
