Being An Expert

By Coco Clayman-Cook

Are you a recognized expert in your field? If you aren't you need to get that way fast. One of the fastest ways to become a recognized expert is to brand yourself as an expert.
First you need to be clear about what your expertise is. If you aren't clear about that you need to stop everything else and get really clear about your expertise. If you aren't clear, no one else will be clear either.

Next you need to put yourself out there as an expert. Blog about your expertise and make sure you tag your expertise in your Blog. Write articles about your expertise for your website. Repurpose those articles as Blogs and offer them to your local newspaper or other websites. Overnight you will be a recognized as an expert.

Reinventing the Wheel

By Coco Clayman-Cook

I am a big fan of mentoring because I don't believe in reinventing the wheel. If I can take an afternoon a month and learn how to do something or even how not to do something, I can save much time, energy and money. I have two mentors that I have used for years. I usually mentor at least two new realtors. Both situations are extremely rewarding. From my mentors I learn essential information about the actions I am about to take. I learn from my mentor's mistakes and from their victories. It is also a great motivator as I am accountable to my mentors.

From the realtors I mentor I learn a great many things. Anytime you learn something and then teach it to someone else it strengthens your skills. Consequently each time I share valuable info I become a better realtor and a better business woman. I also am refreshed by the energy and commitment of my mentees. It is essential to give back and stay in contact with the energy and innovation that comes with the next generation.

Marketing For the Ages

By Coco Clayman-Cook

Marketing changes. Strike that, EFFECTIVE Marketing changes. If you are unwilling to
change your marketing strategies then you are unwilling to be as successful as you can be. For those out there who are still handing out refrigerator magnets but don't have a website or a Blog, the world is passing you by.

Consider the recent Presidential campaign. No matter what your politics, no matter what your beliefs there is one fact that all of the pundits on both sides agreed to the morning after the election. Barack Obama ran a campaign that was focused on Internet Marketing. His team utilized the internet to get his message to the masses. And it worked.

Forever the module for running a campaign has been changed. No campaign will ever be run again without using the internet as a marketing tool. The same thing is happening in business right now. The question you need to ask yourself is, are you participating in the Obama model or the McCain model?

Getting Creative

By Coco Clayman-Cook

When times get tough, the tough get creative. Now is not the time to give up, now is the time to get smart. For me getting smart means utilizing technology. Right now business people are slashing their operating budgets to accommodate tough markets. Many are them are cutting out their advertising budgets.

I understand the need to lower overhead, but I don't agree with cutting your advertising budget, especially when there are some great ways to advertise for pennies.

If you are not utilizing the power of the internet to market your business then you are seriously missing one of the biggest revolutions in the business world. Now more than ever you need to be smart about where you put your time and energies. Believe me when I say that internet marketing is worth it. More on this in future Blogs.

Attending Seminars

By Coco Clayman-Cook

As part of my ongoing commitment to growth, I make it a regular practice to attend seminars on topics that I think will help me to be a better person and or develop my business. It's important to constantly refresh your knowledge and commitment.
Attending a seminar can be a much needed break from business as usual. It is a great way to meet new people and more than anything else it is an opportunity to learn something new.

Years ago I mentally charged myself with getting at least one good idea from every seminar I attend. It is almost impossible to attend a seminar of any length with out getting at least one good idea. Remembering that the "one idea" is my goal allows me to enjoy the seminar.
