Are You Being Spammed? I was!

I post a lotTwitter on Twitter, well more then some and less then others I guess. Yesterday I noticed in my email that all of a sudden I had a rash of followers coming on board.

I also like to re-tweet for others when their topic is helpful or interesting, and it brings more attention to them. I've noticed the more I do this the more followers I generally pick up. That's great as on Twitter I personally like an array of knowledge coming through my feed. I don't necessarily try to pin it down to my niche market. Some may think that is good and some may thing it is bad; it's just the way I personally like it.

Anyway, due to this rash of followers I seemed to get yesterday I went into my account and check out those who had followed. To my surprise all but 1 were spammers - and not nice ones to say the least. I guess I was surprised as this was the first time I received so many of these at one time. Needless to say, I had a great time blocking them and hitting spam on them. (There is usually a way on most of the reputable social sites to notify the network that it is spam and/or delete or block them.)

This prompted me to go into Twitter's advanced search and enter some criteria which included re-tweets along with a main search word of Google. I now see how easy it is for spammers to pick new targets and something tells me that they may have software that actually automates it for them (though that's just a guess on my part).

The reason I'm pointing all this out is so that no matter what account you have, when someone friends you, follows you, or whatever that site wants to call it - please click on their name aLinkedInnd check them out. Most all of the social networks allow you to, at the very least, see their profiles and current activity. See if they appear to be a real person that you want following you, because remember, (generally speaking) when you post on your feed it shows up on theirs. Choose wisely where you want your tweets and comments to show up.

GoogleAlso, as just a little helpful hint, if you have a Google Account and haven't changed your password lately - do so now. (Google accounts include Youtube, Gmail, profiles, places, etc...) They were having their own set of issues! More Info Here

If You Hired a Virtual Assistant, What Duty(s) Would You Hire Them For?

What would be the most important duty a Virtual Assistant (VA) could do for you and your business? Social Media? Maintain your client database? Keep your Quickbooks up to date? Set up your calendar for reminders?

There are so many duties that a business support specialist (VA) can do for a sole proprietor or a micro business it is hard to list all of them.

There are virtual companies that, of course, specialize in fields like bookkeeping, web site creation, and graphics to name a few.

But if you were looking for someone who could handle several day to day duties, what would be the most important one they could do for you that would make a difference in your time?

A task that would give you back an hour or more a day or even a few hours a week. One that at the same time, would ease your stress knowing that particular important business function was being handled professionally and on time.

When you decide what that would be, you have just figured out how to create more time in your day. More time that you can spend on developing better customer relations, more creative customer service, and more product.

Man Overwhlemed

If you are trying to do it all; everything from accounting to networking to caring for your customers and building your product, it could take much longer for you to grow your company. A little help can sometimes make a big difference! Please let me know what one or two duties you would like to have someone handle for you to give you more time and relieve a little stress!

E-Book Devices; I Have Mixed Emotions on Them.

"In a statement, Amazon says that, “over the past three months, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon.com has sold, it has sold 143 Kindle books."

Mashable

Now I have seen the Kindle/Nook device. They are cool looking, but do I want to carry around yet another electronic device? If you read many books in just days, then this would probably be the thing for you as you could make sure you never go without a book.

But as I don't get to read 1/3 of the books I would like to due to lack of time, I think I might just stick to the real thing - hard or soft cover - I think I like literally seeing how many pages I have to read to get to the ending and not just the number of pages. Of course my feelings on that might change if the book is quite large, as the Kindle would be much easier to hold then a very long book!

I just can't decide!

Twitter - Keep on Tweeting

I hope that you have a little understanding into Twitter. Twitter can also be used by employers to recruit, and by people looking for jobs. If you are looking for work, find openings by following people or companies you would like to work for. Employers post Tweets for highly qualified people, and HR department heads look through Twitter to see if there are any potential candidates for their positions.

A refresher:

*Tweet - an incoming or outgoing message.

*Following - Anyone (person or company) that you are interested in and clicked follow on their home page.

*Followers - Anyone that has clicked follow on your home page and is following you.

*Direct Message - Message that are private. They don't appear on your page or in searches. Users can send or receive direct messages on anyone they are following or any of their followers.

*Apps - There are many apps (applications) that are out on the web for Twitter. Just google Twitter Apps and take a look to see if any would be helpful to you. They are generally easy to install and set up. If you want an opinion of any particular app, ask about it on a Tweet!

Hash Tag (#) - These are used to categorize topics on Twitter. Click on one when you see it and you will see a list of Tweets on the subject that hash tag is attached to.
