Downtown Newnan Georgia is a vibrant and robust business center, with shops, restaurants and services for citizen and visitor alike. It's also a great place for an afternoon or evening walk, with broad sidewalks and excellent traffic control.
One of the most interesting facets of downtown Newnan is the number of historic buildings still standing, Many were constructed in the 19th century, and still retain their charm and unique style.
If you wish to plan a walking tour of Newnan, a map listing the merchants is available from Mainstreet Newnan. It's a great guide for getting around town, There is also plenty of free parking in the area.
Even though I live in the area, I still enjoy walking the streets of Newnan, and I discover something new every time I visit. It's a piece of living history, so why not plan a visit today?

Tuesday, the 6th will be the first Tuesday in May this year. And what that means in the State of Georgia, is that on the steps of every courthouse, beginning at 10 A.M. properties in foreclosure will be offered for "sale, in cash, at public outcry to the highest bidder,"
With over a hundred foreclosures in Coweta County alone, you would think that the steps would be crowded with bargain seekers. You would be wrong.
What happens in the majority of the cases, is that the lender holding the note will bid what is owed, plus the attorney's fees. And since most of these foreclosed loans were in the 95% tp 100% LTV range, and since the properties have depreciated over the last two years, the banks are generally bidding substantially over market.
Add to that the potential for federal and state tax liens, and courthouse auctions are no bargains right now. Better to let the banks buy them back, and get both a better price and terms in a negotiated short-sale.
But if you insist on trying, do your homework. Have your cash or certified funds on your person, as you will generally only have less than an hour to produce the money.
Or, better yet, use the services of a professional full-time real estate agent, specializing in foreclosures and short-sales. This can help you avaoid all of the common pitfalls of purchasing bank-owned properties!

I, and most of my friends and neighbors, have a common bond with the citizens of Beijing China. Both Beijing and Atlanta share the privilege of being Olympic sister cities.
You may or may not care about the games themselves, but the Olympics are bigger than you can ever imagine. The amount of building and preparation needed for a 17 day event is unfathomable. Venues must be constructed, transportation had to be provided, security has to be implemented and the athletes, fans, and media from around the world have to be accommodated.
I was the broker at CENTURY 21 Intown in downtown Atlanta, and was able to witness every step of the process firsthand. It was amazing to see the permanent changes to the landscape of downtown Atlanta.
And the games themselves were phenomenal. The crowds were orderly, the events were exciting, and everyone seemed to enjoy the true melting pot of culture that collected in our city for two and an half weeks.
It was something I'll never forget. I will be posting more about the Olympics as time goes on. My ancient (1996) report on the games is located at:

Country Music Superstar Alan Jackson returned to his hometown, Newnan Georgia, on Tuesday April 29 to sign autographs of music CD's and his wife, Denise Jackson's latest book: "It's All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life."
The line extended out the door of downtown's Scott's Book Store and down the street, as friends and fans waited up to two hours to spend a few seconds with Newnan's most famous native son.
Alan and Denise were as cordial and friendly as could be under the circumstances, as they tried to accomodate everyone's desire for autographs and photos.
However, the weather was nearly perfect, and the crowd was orderly, and everyone seemed to enjoy spending the afternoon outside with other Alan Jackson devotees.
Afterwards, the Jackson waved to the crowd as he climbed into his tour bus for a well-deserved rest. It was a fine ending to a special day in Coweta County,

Greenville Street Park in beautiful downtown Newnan Georgia celebrated its official grand opening on Friday night, April 18 2008.
The park was opened in grand style with a free public jazz concert in the new outdoor amphitheater. The weather was perfect, and the music was light and smooth. The laid back crowd relaxed and enjoyed the ambiance of the new facility combined with the sweet strains of music.
The concert was held in conjunction with the 2008 Spring Art Walk on the courthouse square, and was followed on Saturday April 20 with the Spring tour of homes.
The event was sponsored by MainStreet Newnan, a trade association of downtown merchants.
If you haven't been to downtown Newnan lately, do pay a visit. It is alive and vibrant, with lots of unique shops and restaurants that are sure to offer something of interest to everyone.
And it is a wonderful walking area, with excellent traffic control and protected crosswalks. And don't forget your camera. There are many historic buildings and homes in the area, and the whole town is a photographer's delight.
Why not plan a trip today!
