Richard Weisser - Coweta Fayette Real Estate - Newnan homes for sale

As the sun sets on another week, it’s time to reflect on the Newnan Real Estate market for 2011.

Newnan Real Estate market for 2011.As unbelievable as it sounds, we are already well into May and the year 2011 is waxing towards its midpoint!

And already we have a good enough sampling of production data to analyze where we stand and where we will probably end up at year’s end.

So far, 2011 is running pretty much on a par with last year. We haven’t seen any major breakthroughs in the Newnan and Coweta County but we are holding our own and continue to see modest sales production county wide.

The best properties continue to sell quickly, while those priced over market may languish for years. The demand is huge for bargain-priced real estate, not so much for the “average” seller that wants to test the market.

And so, with another week in the books, we press on.

Because this is what we do!

Tornado in Vaughn Georgia. It’s sobering when a town disappears overnight.

Tornado in Vaughn Georgia.A few days ago I wrote about narrowly escaping a tornado in Coweta County Georgia. We were fortunate to come away unscathed.

Unfortunately, some communities in neighboring Spalding County did not fare so well. Reports of the damage there was not highlighted on many newscasts because the devastation in larger towns seized the headlines.

Vaughn Georgia was hit hard and fast, and now lies in ruin. The cleanup has commenced, but the destruction is so widespread and pervasive that it may be years before the area recovers.

I took some photographs because there is a story that needs to be told. But it was distressing to see so many good people hurting so much as their lives changed literally overnight.

Sadly, two lives were lost. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families.

But it could have been worse. So much worse.

Enjoying the last cool breezes of the Spring on the first Sunday in May!

Enjoying the last cool breezes of the Spring on the first Sunday in May!As I am writing this, I am sitting outside on the deck, enjoying what will probably be some of the last cool breezes of the Spring.

I suspect that we are going to have another hot Summer here in Newnan, because we have already had some afternoons pushing 90 degrees, and that was hot for April! Now that May is here, pleasant and cool mornings will slowly erode and we’ll have to wait until October for them to return.

A cool breeze combined with a hot cup of coffee is a pleasure that cannot be described by mere words. It is both therapeutic and inspiring at the same time.

Soon the sun will rise above the trees and the breezes will dissipate for today. Chores and work duties await.

But for now, I think I’ll have a second cup!

Technology and a night of terror.

Technology and a night of terror. We live in an age of miraculous technology, and the field of meteorology utilizes some of the most advanced methods and devices to predict the path of upcoming weather episodes.

The National Weather Service is charged with alerting residents in areas that may lie in the path of severe weather, and hopefully, citizens will take the appropriate actions and lives can be saved.

Last night, we watched in horror as powerful and deadly tornadoes devastated communities in Alabama as they moved East towards Georgia, Reports of many fatalities in Tuscaloosa were reaching us as darkness set in.

We made our emergency preparations. We had the flashlights at the ready and the pets nearby. Our action plan was ready to implement on a second’s notice.

We were glued to the local news as the storm was tracked, and as the National Weather Service moved our area from a Tornado Watch to Warning.

The clock ticked down in a way that was both too fast and too slow. All of the towns that we know were given ever dwindling time frames to take cover …. Ten minutes, nine minutes, eight minutes … we headed for the basement …seven minutes …six …

When the storm was less than three miles from our house, it lifted off the ground and lost some of its force. Although we received high winds, torrential rain, and incredible amounts of lightning we were spared the devastation of a direct hit by a tornado.

Many others were not so fortunate. We are only now seeing the statewide devastation caused by one of the most powerful storm systems in history. Many lives were lost. We pray for them and the survivors.

It was a night of terror, but thanks to technology, we were continuously informed and were able to take the appropriate measures.

And I’m certain that in the hardest hit areas, lives were saved because they did the same.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is set to open Summer 2011.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is set to open Summer 2011.Chattahoochee Bend State Park, the first Georgia state park in Coweta County, should be opened to the public in July 2011.

Construction on the facilities in the 2,900 acre state park is complete, and volunteers are working hard on trail construction through the remote areas along the banks of the Chattahoochee River.

The biodiversity of the park is represented by various ecosystems including river flood plains, freshwater marshes, pine and hardwood forests, and granite outcroppings. The number of different species of flora and fauna surpasses any other natural area in the county.

The proximity of the park to the majority of the greater Atlanta metropolitan area should make Chattahoochee Bend State Park one of the most visited in the Georgia park system.

Chattahoochee Bend State Park will offer unique recreational opportunities for all that choose to take advantage of it.

An official opening date should be announced soon.
