You can spot them right away by the "natural" look of the lawn. As the beautiful wildflowers appear where there was once green grass, it becomes very apparent that something about this property has changed.
It is neither motivated by the embracing of the notion of "going green" and getting back to nature nor by a desire to save the planet. Rather, it is the after effect mandated by a true lack of the "green" that is necessary to maintain a mortgage, let alone a manicured lawn.
There is a "twilight zone" of time that occurs between the time a house is abandoned, and the time it appears back on the market as an REO property or HUD home. It's the time when everyone asks the question "what the heck is going on over there?"
Some attempt to penetrate the depths of the bowels of giant corporate banks in a futile attempt to extract what little flecks of information they can mine from that unseemly underworld of chaos and confusion.
Others prefer to wait and let nature run its course.
After all, no one in their right mind would just let a house sit there are decay, would they?

In these days of foreclosures, REO and short sales, we often gear the expression "HUD Homes." And while most buyers know that these homes are foreclosed properties, most do not understand the difference between a HUD home and other distressed properties.
Very simply put, a HUD home is a one to four unit foreclosed home that had an FHA guaranteed loan in place. When the borrower defaulted, the lender took possession of the property which was then turned over to the Department of Housing and Urban Development in exchange for a cash reimbursement.
This means that the government of the United States actually owns these homes outright, and can offer them for sale or dispose of them by any legal method under law.
There are other kinds of foreclosures that are not HUD properties and that may be owned by a bank or other investor. These houses are generally being held as REO (Real Estate Owned) properties by their respective owners. Each bank may decide on what to do with their properties, and how to dispose of them.
But HUD properties are sold by a singular and uniform method In the state of Georgia, a contractor has been hired by HUD to assist with accepting bids and assigning contracts to prospective buyers!
So while all HUD homes are foreclosures, not all foreclosures are HUD homes! Only those houses that had FHA guaranteed loans and now belong to the government are being offered as HUD homes!

The Hollow Restaurant originally was opened as "Catfish Hollow" restaurant in Tyrone Georgia in 1986. The name was derived from the house specialty, light and flaky catfish friend to a golden brown.
In 1991 the restaurant was moved to its current location at Thomas Crossroads in Coweta County. As the menu has expanded over time to offer dishes other than seafood, the name was changed to "The Hollow Steak and Seafood."
The signature dishes are delicious, such as the grilled grouper sandwich, the lobster stuffed grouper, and the red snapper. If you prefer a nice steak, the grilled sirloin is an excellent choice.
There are great appetizers such as the southern classic fried green tomatoes or the standby shrimp cocktail. You can also choose from an assortment of salads, including a wonderful shrimp salad.
Side dishes include mac and cheese, collard greens or sweet potato soufflé. And a glass of sweet tea and you're in southern style heaven.
One of the most popular promotions at the Hollow Steak and Seafood is the Thursday - Saturday seafood buffet. For one fixed price, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat seafood of nearly every kind, cooked fried, broiled or steamed! It's a great way to sample a variety of the great dishes offered in a single seating!
The Hollow Steak and Seafood is owned and operated by the same good folks as Golden's on the Square in Newnan, so you can expect the same quality and great service whether you are in downtown Newnan or at the Crossroads restaurant!
The Hollow Steak and Seafood is located just South of Thomas Crossroads, with entrances from both Highway 34 and Highway 154. There is ample parking available on site.

There are convenience stores and then there are stores that are convenient. Ronnies Variety Store in Newnan Georgia is an excellent example of an old-fashioned filling station combined with a small corner market and a bait and tackle shop!
And while this combination seems unusual at first, it makes perfect sense to those that are heading to Georgia's Lake West Point for a pleasant day of fishing and relaxation. Here anglers can fill their car with gas, their coolers with ice and beverages, and their bait wells with live minnows or night-crawlers!
The store also offers tackle if every size and description, so any angler can have the appropriate gear for whatever fish is in season. Ronnies Variety store has a little bit of everything so you're certain to find exactly what you need for game-fishing! And in Georgia, that could mean crappie, large and smallmouth bass, bream or catfish!
George and Ronnie Lauzon have kept the family owned store in operation since 1984, and the place has become a neighborhood fixture. There is always a little confusion about the name "Ronnies." Although it is easy for a newcomer to get the owners mixed up, even many of the long time customers know George as "Ronnie" and Ronnie as "Ronnie's wife!"
And since the store has been in operation for so many years, the regular customers keep the place hopping. Even on a hot summer afternoon this writer saw a never ending stream of customers stop in for a cold drink and a friendly conversation!
To find Ronnies Variety Store, just take Temple Avenue to a left on Franklin Highway (GA Hwy 34) just west of town, and cross the railroad tracks. Ronnies is about a quarter of a mile on the left!

It has been an interesting and controversial weekend. I have engaged in mental sparring with a lot of people that are much smarter than me, and it has taken its toll!
My ability to move quickly on my feet has diminished with each passing year. It is a new world, completely different from the one I grew up in so many years ago.
The best part the passing of time, though, is that each year the Great Smoky Mountains revert one year more back to a more pristine state. In the nearly forty years that I have frequented the park, the changes are dramatic.
The trees are bigger, the balds are grown over, and the overall look and feel is more natural and serene.
Have a great day!
