It is an inevitable fact of military life that moving is quite common. While it is a scary and can seem quite impossible the first time, you will get better at it. So, you just got your orders and are wondering what's next. The first thing is to do as much research as possible into your new location. If you can live off post and want to, then you need to look into housing. If you have children, your new homes location will determine their schools. Your hobbies and passions will also dictate your location. Needless to say, there are many topics that need to be covered to make your move successful.

Hunter Army Airfield is located on the West side of downtown Savannah in Chatham County. Savannah is Georgia's first city. It is also considered America's first planned city. Savannah was founded in 1733 and full of history. If you ignore the paved roads and other modern conveniences, you almost feel you are getting a glimpse into the past. The beautiful old oaks covered with their Spanish Moss, the Victorian homes, and remaining plantations can give you the impression that time has not changed here.
However, time does not stand still anywhere for anyone. While 21 of its original 24 squares remain in existence, there have been many changes. They are even talking about rebuilding and adding new squares. There is something here for everyone whether it be just lounging on the beach, shopping, or learning about the history.
Hunter Army Airfield is considered to be a part of Fort Stewart, which is located further West in Bryan and Liberty counties. Hunter has seen an increase in the number of troops it houses. For that reason, more homes were built on Hunter to try to accommodate some of the new troops. Housing at Hunter can be difficult because of this. Therefore if you are looking for housing on Hunter, you will want to take care of this first. The sooner you notify someone, the better. To talk to the housing office, call 912-459-2133.
Hunter has most of the usual military conveniences. It has the commissary (grocery store), PX (AAFES), a health clinic, guest housing, Post Office, etc. For specialized medical care, you will most likely be sent to Fort Stewart. For recreation, there is the Hunter Lanes, the golf course, and Lotts Island. Lotts Island has a little picnic and play area. There is also a dock and a pier. We enjoyed fishing and crabbing from the pier. We saw a little shark and a pretty big stingray get caught!
The main entrance to Hunter is located on Stephenson Avenue off of Abercorn Street. However, there are two other gates. There is the Montgomery Road gate, that was previously the main gate, and the Rio Road Gate. The Stephenson gate will lead you to the shopping areas near the Oglethorpe Mall and eventually to the beach (navigation is necessary). Montgomery Street will lead you towards Forsythe Park and ultimately to the river. The Rio gate will lead you to the Savannah Mall and the Southside.
If you are looking for a home off post, there are a mind boggling number of communities, schools, and attractions. Just browsing listings via the internet will give you an idea of the home, but it will not tell you about the area. For more information about attractions and housing, a local real estate agent would come in handy. A military relocation package will be given and can be immensely helpful. Being a military spouse, I know too well about the Permanent Change of Station. Yesterday in the Savannah area, it was Super Museum Sunday. Admission to historical sites and museums were free. There were 39 participants all over the area. It gave many people a chance to get out and see things they normally couldn't afford to. It was a great time to get into the history of Savannah. 
The kids and I decided to go to the aquarium on Skidaway Island. It was a nice aquarium and center for learning. I didn't know it existed until this event. My kids loved their nurse shark and touching the hermit crabs. They also have a nice nature trail behind the building that has some great views. The kids had a great time viewing and then spending mommy's money in the gift shop! So, much for free.
After the aquarium, we decided to catch the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler, Georgia. I was amazed at how big it was and all the history contained in its walls. The kids even enjoyed it. They liked looking at all the planes and all the old clothing. I enjoyed reading and photographing! The FDR quote to the right was from the museum. For anyone visiting the Savannah area, this museum would be a great place to stop.
On Sunday, the admission price for almost 40 local and national museums and historic sites will be free. That's right. The usual hours for this "free" time is between noon and 4 pm. However, there are a few exceptions. This annual event commemorates the founding of the 1733 colony. With almost 40 participants and only 4 hours, you are sure to be busy. Attraction in West Chatham County: Looking for things to do in the suburbs? Check out all the current attractions in the area. But make sure to check back regularly as new attractions are on the way.
The Savannah area has so much history and so much growth. Going downtown, is like being transported back into time. The old buildings lining the streets, which medians are lined with Oaks covered in that beautiful Spanish Moss, allows you a glimpse into the past. If you are coming for a visit, you must take a stroll along River Street. Not only do you get to see the River and riverboats, but there are so many restaurants and stores along the way. For those with a sweet tooth, they have some wonderful candy stores that make excellent fudge and other goodies. If you like ghost stories, Savannah is the place for you. Take a ride in a hearse along the downtown streets while the driver tells you of all the haunted places around. Forsythe park is a great place to take the kids or to just go for a jog. Better yet, take a trip to the beach. Not only will you find a place to have some fun in the sun, but you will also find unique little shops. They are currently working on expanding the River front in Savannah. I can't imagine what more they can add. Savannah has something for everyone. Come discovery the history and beauty of the South. Discover Savannah!
While you are here, don't forget to visit the West Chatham, Bryan, and Effingham Counties. West Chatham offers proximity to downtown Savannah but without the city drawbacks. There is so much growth going on in Pooler, Port Wentworth, Rincon, Guyton, and Richmond Hill. It seems like things change almost daily. There are so many plans for these areas. There are two new restaurants and a car wash set to open in Pooler and a new Lowe's open. Two new school are planned for the West Chatham area as well. They will be located off Jimmy Deloach Parkway. If you would like more information, don't hesitate to contact me. If the city and the suburbs aren't for you, Effingham County may be the perfect fit. While the area is seeing some growth, there are plenty of homes with land available. So if horses are your passion, Effingham County has a place for you. You can live in a country setting and still be within an hour of the city and the beach. Savannah and the surrounding areas have so much to offer. Come explore all there is to offer!

An agent can help you through the whole home buying process. If you are a first time buyer, it is easy to get lost in the paperwork and legalities. An agent can assist you, give you tips, give you opinions, and give you ideas about value, the market, and about price. The right agent can make your life simpler. Make sure you take the time to find an agent that works the best with you and for you.
A buyer's agent is always useful to have if you are relocating as well. Real estate professionals can send you local information about school, attractions, etc. All this information will help you decide on the area that's right for your needs. Of course, you will also be able to see available homes in the area that fit your needs. The last thing you want is to move to a new area, purchase a home, and later find out it's not where or what you wanted it to be.

To use an agent or go it alone
It's been on your mind for awhile. You've considered every available option and went over every detail. After some time, you come to the decision to sell your home. Now that you've made the decision, what happens next. Do you buy a for sale by owner sign and begin to market your home yourself? Or do you enlist the help of a real estate professional to market your home?
There is no clear cut answer that is right for everyone. However, your chances increase when you decide to list with a real estate agent.
Why? Experience, Exposure, and E-Knowledge. A real estate agent has helped many people sell their homes and have gained more knowledge each time. A great real estate agent will give your home the most exposure possible. There is so much more to marketing than your typical print advertising. The internet has allowed us to reach so many more people. Thus, it gives your home more exposure. Multiple websites and the MLS are only the beginning. Another powerful tools is agent to agent networking. Real estate agents will notify all other agents about your home. E-Knowledge, a word I created, is the use of our most powerful tool, the internet. There are so many new ways to get your home out there to millions and millions of people. The more people that see your home, the more likely your home is to sell.
How? With online blogging emerging as a new tool, an agent can blog about your home, add pictures, and links to get your home out there to more people. Online forums either for agents or consumers is another great tool. Agents can market your home to other agents and even consumers. You never know who has or will have a client looking in your area. If can be as simple as adding your home to the agents website, putting the link in a profile, and just posting quality information. The person reading looks at the profile and sees the link. They open the link and there your home is. The more sites your home is on, the more likely people will see your home.
Who? With so many agents out there, how can you possible decide you to choose. Simple, you need to ask the right questions. You need to find someone that is very ambitious, energetic, and trying new ideas. You want someone that will get your home out there as much as possible. You want someone that uses all the available technology for you. Basically, you want someone that will work for you in every way available.
I received my real estate license from Pennsylvania in 2002 and Georgia in 2006. While in Pennsylvania, I assisted many people with their home buying and home selling needs. I would love to continue helping others through the sometimes long and difficult process of buying and selling homes. I worked as a pharmacist in an animal hospital until an organic/analytical chemist position came available in 2001. As an organic/analytical chemist, I ran various tests from volatile organic to lead paint testing. The only drawbacks were the temperamental instruments and being alone in a laboratory all day. My grandma decided she wanted to move. I accompanied her to many open houses and viewings. I found myself enjoying going with her. So, I started taking classes to obtain my real estate license.
