Stager Advises To Keep Pup In the House for Open House! Is She Crazy?

When advising clients about preparing their home for showings and open houses, I always say to remove all evidence of pets - including the pets themselves. If the pet is locked up in the garage or backyard, those areas will be hard to show, so it's always best to have them off to "visit grandma" or for a ride in the car if possible.

Additionally, while owners may not be able to smell any odors from the litter boxes, pet food or bedding, buyers with sensitive noses may be turned off by these smells. Removing these items is a simple step to take, and well worth the effort. Personally I always find it distracting when I'm viewing a home and see the pet food in the oddest places - like a bathroom counter or bedroom. I love pets - but for showing a home love them hidden!

Well, rules are meant to be broken -- sometimes! Just love these darling arrangements and wouldn't they be a fun centerpiece! Even for an open house!

Sellers! Make It Crystal Clear to Home Buyers!

Many homes have quirks, odd areas or challenging floor plans that can cause buyers to say “what were they thinking?” or “that’s odd”! When showing your home for sale, these are the last thoughts you want to be going through buyers’ minds! Over 90% of home buyers cannot visualize the potential of a room. They see only what is. Additionally, over 85% of buyers are looking at photos on the internet first – if the rooms look odd, they won’t make an appointment to view the home!

Armed with this information, a professional home stager will turn these quirks into features so buyers will have a clear and favorable impression!

the bowling alley living roomThis two bedroom home had great features, but the living room was only a little over 9 feet wide and REALLY L O N G! Buyers could not figure out how they would arrange their furniture or optimize the space. By bringing in a few pieces of furniture, these questions are answered for them.

By dividing this long awkward space into two areas, buyers will now be able to “see” the potential of separating the room to serve two purposes. They can imagine a cozy reading corner or perhaps a sunny space for their desk.

Even a few pieces of furniture added to a space can give buyers ideas on how they would use a room. With so many vacant homes on the market, light staging sets the home apart on the internet and in person! This option is affordable and important in a buyers market!

Wednesday Farmers' Market - A Salem Oregon Treat!

Salem Oregon Farmers' MarketWe can’t think of a better way to welcome spring than by attending the Wednesday Farmers' Market in downtown Salem on Chemeketa Street NE between Liberty and High streets! Even if it’s a little overcast or drizzly, it always a fun experience!

If you haven’t visited the market previously, you’re in for a treat! The streets are cordoned off and vendors set up stands selling everything from jewelry, plants, baked goods, hand crafted items and more. It’s a great spot to grab a unique lunch and a beautiful (and affordable) bouquet of flowers!

This week (after I get my flowers) I’ll be checking out booths for Mother’s Day ideas and I’m sure I’ll find something unique and that she’ll love. Perhaps there will be some early locally grown produce (I can hardly wait), and I’m still needing a few starts for my vegetable garden too.

We Like to Move It! Move It!

home selling in Oregon

My blogs have been sparse lately -- and some loyal readers have commented -- what are you up to? Is everything okay? How's the real estate market in Oregon lately?

Well -- we've been having some great things happening in the real estate and staging part of our world --

New clients, new realtors and new homes to stage, but even more fun for us is that those pending signs are being hung on many of the properties we've worked on!

This past week alone four properties have received offers. A total of over $1.6M of inventory. Now this may be common for some areas or markets, but when there is 21 months of inventory in some areas and the average DOM is hovering at 140+ and much more on high end homes -- we are celebrating these offers! Better yet - so are the realtors and home sellers we work with!

That's the great news -- now there's always a downside -- we have a lot of furniture to move in the next few weeks! So if you see some crazy folks going in and out of a house that was for sale and singing "We Like to Move It, Move It" -- you'll know its us -- we love moving furniture! It means success for our home sellers!

More soon -- but right now I've got to go strap on my dancing shoes and start moving it!
