Tips to help you hire the right person when renovating or doing almost any work in your home
Where you you begin once you decide to renovate or remodel your home? From my experience doing your due diligence in choosing the right person to come into your home and do the work will make you feel more comfortable as you go through each step of your renovation process.
If you are thinking of doing any major renovations such as bathroom or kitchen or just minor repairs here are some questions and suggestions to get you started:
•1. Get two or three written quotes for scope of work you want to have done
•2. Is the person doing the quote the person doing the work if not, who is doing it
•3. How long do they estimate the job will take, request a start / finish date of work being done
•4. Ask for two references from past clients - name - phone number•5.
•5. Do they have a business license - you may ask to see license if this makes you feel more comfortable
•6. Are they Insured
•7. What is there hourly rate if working by the hour
•8. Request receipt for deposits given with name, address & phone number on receipt
A home is usually your private dwelling place, so I would think it is very important that you feel comfortable with the people who come and work in your home and that you feel safe. If you have an uneasy feeling listen to that and call someone else for a quote. Being home stager I worked closely with my clients to de-clutter their home and get it ready for lising and staged before hitting the real estate market. We began with De-cluttering which can be difficult for clients at the best of times with so many emotions attached to their home and their belongings, Fortunately, my clients were motivated, we began with gettinga storage locker and the pictures tell a story...
Not exactle the same angle but i am sure you get the picture!.. First rule of thumb to good home staging is to DECLUTTER and CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN if its all your client can afford these are the must do's next off is a coat of Paint to give a fresh look and smell.. If you can match up the paint you may only need one coat depending on when it was last painted. oops we must not forget the carpet cleaning, if you cannot afford to hire someone, rent a carpet shampoer from your local grocery store for a weekend.
'We brougt this L shaped sofa up from the downstairs media room and added an "Accessory Package" to suite their home and budget. Again if your client does not have much of a budget be creative. borrow stuff from their family members if necessary, no one wants to buy stuff when they are moving as it may not suit their new home.
