Civic Complex to Break Ground this Fall
Construction Documents are nearing completion for the City of Wylie's new civic complex which includes a 45,737 sq. ft. City Hall, 47,159 sq. ft. Recreation Center and 43,934 sq. ft. Library. Approved by voters during the 2005 Bond Program, the complex will be located on the East side of FM 1378 between Brown Street and FM 544.

Designed by nationally known firms Architexas and Holzman Moss Architecture, the complex features green building and energy saving initiatives. Many of the materials are native to Texas including Austin Stone and Mesquite ingrain flooring. Special consideration was taken to ensure that the unique, one-of-a-kind, design compliments the beautiful landscape and takes full advantage of the open meadow, sloping topography, trees and creek. The area is the perfect location for future events and walking trails. And with one of the largest back porches in Texas, it's sure to be the community gathering place of choice for Wylie residents and visitors from across the Metroplex.

If the civic center was built today, FM 1378 would run through the breezeway between the Recreation Center and City Hall. In preparation of construction late fall/early winter, a temporary bypass on FM 1378 will be built in the coming months. Re-construction of FM 1378 from FM 544 to Parker Road continues with utility relocations. Excavation is scheduled to begin this winter on the northern section of FM 1378 from Brown Street to Parker Road.

Project Fire Station No. 3
Description This approximately 11,000 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property at the southeast intersection of Brown and W.A. Allen. It will feature three (3) apparatus bays, trailer storage facilities, living and working quarters for five (5) firefighting personnel and a small training room.
Status Currently under construction with completion in December 2008.

Project Public Library
Description This 43,934 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property along FM 1378 (Country Club) just north of FM 544. It will be part of a municipal complex along with the new City Hall and Recreation Center.The new Public Library will feature an adult area, children area, teen area, meeting rooms, quiet study rooms, technology area and a café area
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall/winter 2008.

Project Recreation Center
Description This 47,159 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property along FM 1378 (Country Club) just north of FM 544. It will be part of a municipal complex along with the new Public Library and City Hall.The new Recreation Center will feature two basketball courts, cardiovascular/fitness area, indoor walking/running track, aerobics/dance rooms, classrooms, locker rooms and administrative office space.
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall/winter 2008.

Project New City Hall
Description This 45,737 square foot facility will be built on City-owned property along FM 1378 (Country Club) just north of FM 544. It will be part of a municipal complex along with the new Public Library and Recreation Center.The new City Hall will be home to the following departments: Office of the City Manager, Building Inspections, City Engineer, City Secretary, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Planning and Zoning, and Utility Billing. The new building will also feature a Council Chambers area.
Status In the design stage. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall/winter 2008.

Wylie Call-In Brush and Bulk Service

Wylie residents can now dispose of brush and bulk items quick, and convenient! No more waiting for a specific day of the month for collection. Follow these steps:

-Call 972.392.9300, option 2, by 5pm on Monday or Tuesday for same week pick-up on Thursday or Friday. Collection requests received on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday will be scheduled for the following Thursday or Friday.

-Community Waste Disposal will collect a total of 24 cubic yards per year, up to 6 cubic yards per collection. Costumers can schedule as many pick-ups as needed without exceeding the 24 cubic yard limit per year.
