In the Palm of My Hand...

In the Palm of My Hand...
The other day while working on one of my Koi ponds, I heard a loud thump on one of the glass windows to the sun room and a very recognizable squeak. Hummers get rather aggressive around the feeder this time of year as they buzz one another in order to secure the remaining supply of nectar for themselves.
Looking up, I saw this hummer flop to the ground right in front of me and I had to reach out to keep it from falling into the pond. Now if any of you are an old softie when it comes to humming birds like me, I thought what a tragedy if this little fellow just did himself in. I picked the bird up and noticed that this must be the male that has been visiting my feeder for the past few weeks.

Hummer in the palm of my hand

He lay motionless in my hand. Not looking good I thought but maybe it is just stunned. I'll wait a few.
A few minutes later, he started blinking his eyes started breathing faint shallow breaths. Well that's a good sign, I thought.

Signs of life

I laid him on one of my work gloves and watched as he started rocking to and fro, blinking more and breathing heavier and heavier. The little critter just knocked himself silly. Like lightning, he took off flew over to the feeder, and sat there in stupor. Drinking it's fill, it soon flew off.

Good to see this one pull through, many are not this lucky...

Palindromes...

Palindromes...
Palendromes Palindromes. Those words, phrases, numbers, or other sequences of units that can be read the same way in either direction, with general allowances for adjustments to punctuation and word dividers. How often do we see them here in the Rain? I can probably count on one hand the number of times it has happened to me. But then, maybe some of you have been luckier than I have.
Nevertheless, I thought I'd share one of ActiveRain's oddities as this is what I logged into this morning...
