If you live in Carmel Valley and would like to exercise or join a sports league or simply play with your children at a playground, there is no better place than the Carmel Valley Recreation Center. Located at 3777 Townsgate Drive, across from the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center, the Carmel Valley Recreation Center is a large indoor/outdoor sports complex operated by the City of San Diego. Many of the sports that you can 
participate in include baseball, softball, basketball, tennis, horse shoes, football, shuffle board, gymnastics, soccer and an Olympic-size swimming pool. There is also a large outdoor amphitheater used for local concerts and youth stage productions. 
The pool offers swimming lessons, youth water polo, adult lap swimming and recreational swimming, along with a children's pool with a slide, play structure and water features. The sports fields are well-maintained and there are ample number of tennis courts available. A great place to spend the day or enjoy a picnic there with your children!

As the proud owner of Spaniels, I was delighted to learn several years ago that there is a dog park in Carmel Valley. The dog park officially opened in 2002 for a "trial basis" and in 2004 was made "permanent by the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board. The park has been welcoming 
dogs and their owners for the past six years. One my lifelong friends, Lisa DeLucchi Seiler, helped create the park, (pictured here with Reese & Holden) along with other dedicated dog lovers. The park is located northeast of the Torrey Pines High School and behind the facilities building. It is off an unmarked access road to the Torrey Highlands Park.
Torrey Highlands Dog Park is popular and visited often by local residents of Carmel Valley, with the gates of the spacious fenced-in facility always swinging open as the pooches arrive by car or on foot. It's a real treat to come to this park providing a chance to get outside and be social, not just for the dogs but for their owners and fellow dog-lovers too! Everyone is friendly and they get to know each other quickly as their dogs romp together. They quickly learn which dogs like to chase the hot air balloons when they float overhead, yip at the playful squirrels nearby or catch a sailing Frisbee mid-air. Frequent visitors say the park makes for such a popular destination for Carmel Valley dog owners because of its great accommodations.
