The Max Planck Florida Insitute is a step closer in beginning business in Jupiter Florida. The Institute has named the construction company to manage its 100,000 suare foot research building at Florida Atlantic University's campus in Abacoa Jupiter. The Weitz Company and DPR Construction will oversee the project. The German-base society expects to break ground on its Florida institute eary next year with completion set for the fall of 2011.

18th Annual Family Fishing Tournament Palm Beach County Florida

The Jupiter-Tequesta-Hobe Sound Association of Realtors® announces their 18th Annual Family Fishing Tournament June 6th and June 7th, 2009. This is a family fun event limited to 60 vessels. (Sorry, no commercial or charter vessels apply). This year's event will benefit The Children's Outreach Fishing Program. Donations from local businesses, volunteers and local government agencies will combine to reach out to children and parents or guardians in Jupiter, Tequesta and Hobe Sound area to create a positive fishing experience that can last a lifetime. Children that would not have the financial resources are provided a free two day educational and fishing experience to learn ethical angling and conservation.

Registration for the Children's Outreach Program is available at the Parks and Recreation Department in Tequesta or the JTHS Association offices at 901West Indiantown Road in Jupiter. Participation in the Outreach Program is limited to the first 60 children who sign up. The children along with 1 parent or guardian will attend a free fishing clinic presented by Mr. Dan Miller on June 1st at Tequesta Park on County Line Road at 6 pm, an invitation to attend the picnic at the Gumbo Limbo Pavilion in Carlin Park from 4p.m. on June 7th, free tackle box, and a drift fishing trip on June 8th aboard the Blue Heron Fleet.

This years schedule of events for the 18th Annual Family Fishing Tournament include the Mandatory Captain's Meeting at Jupiter-Tequesta-Hobe Sound at 901 Indiantown Road Jupiter from 6PM to 7PM, 2 days of fishing, June 6th and June 7th, and the Awards Picnic at the Gumbo Limbo Pavilion in Carlin Park beginning at 4:00PM and Awards Presentation at 6:00PM. Friends and family members of all the anglers are welcome to purchase tickets to attend and enjoy fun and games for the children and an old fashioned picnic. Food for the children participants in the fishing clinic sponsored by Cheney Brothers.

The Grand Prize for the largest overall eligible fish will be $3,000, $1,500 for the second largest overall eligible fish and $750 for the third largest overall eligible fish. Plus, $500 for the largest Dolphin, Kingfish, Wahoo, Snapper and Grouper. (One prize per boat except if only one fish is caught in a species). A custom rod and plaque will be awarded to the largest fish caught by a Male and Female in the junior angler competition, for those 15 and under. A special award will be presented for the largest Bonita.

The cost is $200 per boat with 4 registered anglers before May 29th and $225 after May 29th to June 5th 2009; additional anglers are $50.00 each. Anglers can fish either day or both days. Included in the registration fee is one official t-shirt, 4 tickets to the Awards picnic, additional picnic tickets will be available at Captain's Meeting and the day of the picnic.

The 24th Annual Palm Beach International Boat Show this weekend March 26 - 29, 2009, is one of the top ten boat shows in the country with more than $350 million worth of boats, yachts and accessories from the world's leading marine manufacturers. It is truly an International Show. The event includes hundreds of Boats from 8 foot inflatables, power boats, fishing boats, center consoles, bow riders, personal watercraft to superyachts over 150'. Plus there's the FREE Kids' Fishing Clinics, Xtreme Sport Fishing Seminars, music, food and drinks that make it a great outing for the whole family. The show encompasses close to 1 million sq. ft. of exhibit space on land, in tents and in water along Flagler Drive and the Intercoastal Waterway. There is plenty of parking and docks available if you come via your own boat.

2008 Residential Statistics for Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties

Data released last week by the Florida Association of Realtors shows home sales up for the fourth straight month in December, but still down four percent overall in 2008. Records show a total of 124, 215 homes sold in 2008, compared to 129, 855 that were sold in 2007. The most notable portion of the tracking data shows home sales up 27 percent in December, increasing nearly 30 percent between November and December. Condo sales also increased 12 percent in December, though decreased 10 percent overall in 2008. The data also shows a decrease in home value with the average home sale in December 2008 coming in at $130,000, down from $192,600 just one year ago. Looking at sales across all of 2008, the median price fell from $234,300 in 2007 to $187,800 last year. The good news for Floridians is that homes are selling. The bad news is that homes are selling for less.

The chart below gives you sales in each consecutive quarter for 2008. The "bottom" is in site and if you are considering buying a home now is the time to buy.
